This tends to be a stop on the "around the bay" trips in the area. It is of little interest. You are much better off going to the sandbar, to see the Arabian Sea, or by boat into the backwaters of the lagoon, where the birdlife is stunning.

This is a super backwater trip to take if you're staying in the Kovalam area. The main backwater area, Alleppey, is about a 4 hour drive away and if you don't want an overnight houseboat stay it's too far. Poovar is around 30 mins drive and a very good alternative. We thoroughly enjoyed a good 2 hour boat ride around... More

With some bargain, we a group of 4 persons and a kid (4 years) got one hour ride for Rs. 2500. Yes we could see birds there .. and there was a restaurant where we had tea, which was good... Also the river merged into see... Which was quite good. ..... A must watch place. ..... But you should bargain... More

Negotiate, negotiate and negotiate. That's the golden mantra for hiring a boat ride here. We were in a group of 7, the guy started with 6000, we ultimately settled for 4500 but later realised that we should not have paid more than 3200. But it was too late!!! Anyways... the place is just amazing and has very rich flaura and... More

Made this trip by a Shikara and strolled on the sand. Did not stay on the beach as it was midday and very hot. The Shikara trip was excellent and will recommend very highly to all the visitors. A two hour trip-money and time well spent.

Amongst the most amazing places in kerala. The island is to be approached through the mangrove forests in a boat. The golden sand beach is probably the least known hence the most pretty and unspoiled one in all of kerala. You cannot enter the sea since the shelf slopes away steeply and you are also not allowed to be on it when... amazing experience to sail in a boat in the backwaters of the river nayya. it meets the bay Arabian sea and looks very beautiful. negotiate well with the boatmen. they charge even as high as 4000 for a boat. and take tell the pilot to take you to the forest region of the river. it is amazing.
