There are many spice gardens around Kumily.Just choose a right one and visit there. We choose Periyar spide garden. There was a lady who very well shows n explained us all the spice plants and Ayurvedic plants. It was good experience as first time I saw so fresh spices and ayurvedic plants whose name we just read on ayurvedic medicines.

You can buy various spices n medicines there which are bit costly but pure.

I had to study in detail about the different spices, herbs, their medicinal value and extracts made from the herbs and spices as part of a project and visited Spring Valley. Though I had to walk about 10 Kms, I must say that I got enough material to complete the project. The guide who accompanied me was well versed in explaining in detail about the spices, herbs, products of medicinal value etc which made my task easy. And the I really enjoyed the walk through the spice garden (forest), the fresh air, aroma of the spices etc gave a relaxation to mind and body. I am sure a walk through the spice garden will be a special experience for everyone.

A most interesting and informative tour around the Spice garden learning all the different aspects of spice growing.
Our guide was so patient with all our questions, it was a whole new world for us, we learnt so much.
It was also great to see the pepper and cardamom all drying in the hot sun and such a large selection of spices and other goodies to buy and bring away.
We are using them now in the UK, they are great - thanks!

There are many offers for "spice walks" in and around Thekkady. But most set foot into a garden where the "guides" talk a very short walk and explain bushes, herbs and trees with its value for mankind. Everything is "very good for your health". Even varicose veins would disappear after one month, diabetes, obesity, cardiovascular diseases. Why has industry not responded yet?? Eventually, you end up in the farms shop where you (have to) can buy the wonderful stuff.

After visiting few spice gardens i have come to a conclusion that the purpose of the whole tour is to sell stuff and nothing more, I highly recommend local market purchase.

I loved seeing how the spices were grown. The taste and smell of fresh cardamom still lingers. The vanilla pods were enchanting and exiting to know (i newer knew how vanilla was derived before this walk). however my favorite spice was "all spice" that has flavors of 14 spices in one, amazing

they took 100 rs per person fees for spice plantation visit. they hardly showed us 4 to 5 plants. then if you shop at this places they are expensive than the actually thekkady market. So i will suggest that you better visit the thekkady main market for shopping. it is one of the best to shop in whole of kerala.

There is an exzellent tour done by Mr. Sebastian himself and his wife. We have been learning a lot about spices and went home to our spice cupboard with quite a bit of different attitude :-) Thank you Mr. Sebastian.
