Very relaxing place
Dec 2019
My friend found this place and we decided to do one-day treatment.
We made an appointment by e-mail during our time in Kumily. Our schedule was a kind of tight, but doctor was very flexible and responded our message quickly.

Before the treatment, we talked to doctor one by one. I enjoyed the talk. Of course, we talked about food, habit, but interestingly he guessed my personality and way of thinking after pulse diagnosis.

Treatment was done in the very peaceful room where I can see trees and clean room. After the treatment, the doctor sent us the list of do and don't.
They sell Ayurvedic medicines, tees.

They also have other activities such as meditation. I attended the meditation class and enjoyed it!

If you are going to Kumily, I recommend this place!

Unique relaxing experience
Nov 2019 • Friends
My mom and I spent a day here while traveling through India. The massage was so relaxing and I had a great consultation with dr. hareesh who has still kept in contact now that I’m back in Canada. A great experience, would defiantly go back and would love to stay there for a month and received treatment.

Pain Free!
Feb 2020
I cannot recommend the Panchakarma detox treatment enough. I was lucky enough to be able to stay for 3weeks at Pranamaya.

On arriving at the center, we were warmly welcomed and brought in for a seat and refreshments after our long travel. We were served a delicious hydrating juice and nourishing meal, then given some time to collect ourselves before regrouping. We were given a timetable to being our treatments the following day.

I must say, I felt utterly taken care of, from the moment I arrived, like a child being cared for. I really felt so blessed to sit and have someone serve me nourishing food that had been lovingly prepared. I almost cried at the table when I felt this on the first morning. Being taken care of. Being there really began another dept of self care and healing.

Everyday we had two treatments, the first being a long massage, always over an hour, and the second a shorter treatment, 20-40minutes depending on what you were being given. I had requested to work only with the women for my treatments and it was never an issue.

The young women were so professional, intuitive and warm. I worked with a few different women and it was such a blessing to be cared for by them in their own unique ways. One young woman in particular I felt deeply connected to her energy, she has very healing hands and was super on point with any slight movements I may have made, how my breath may have changed, always checking in with me. She even dried my hair after my shower and it was something that I have not experienced in a long time, since my mother cared for me as a child.

The energy from everyone at Pranamaya is so peaceful and warm. Always a warm smile, a gentle word and being looked after like an extension of family.

The doctors on site were super hard working, as were the massage therapists. I seen them working many long hours and days, always with a peaceful warm manner, even with the busy walk ins and the clients on site.
The Dr. was very knowledgeable, easy to chat with and was always tweaking the treatments, food and medicine to suit my individual dosha. They were always on site and if you needed anything at all the door was always open. Since coming home I have hounded poor Dr. Hareesh with questions about my diet and have always been replied to. The post care is amazing and I feel super blessed to have his continued guidance and support on this side of the world.

The days are pretty full with about 3 hours free time just after the second treatment. This gives you time to reflect, journal, walk, or shop if you need to! The manager took us out to a few different events such as a martial arts schools performance, tea plantation and temples. He is really easy to chat with, he has a good sense of humor and an infectious cheeky smile!
I was offered a massage by himself toward the very end of the panchakarma and it was quiet interesting! I felt massive vibrating energy from his arm as it went over my eyebrow. That kinda blew me away to be honest. I certainly felt serpent energy had a few small visions. I was 'expecting' more of this kind of experience to happen to me, but the treatments will only reach you where you are at, (huge imbalance getting in the way of this cosmic experience!) so please don't be worrying if this sounds like something a bit out there! Like I said the work will only meet you where you are at.

There was a point mabey halfway through and I just felt like i was in my 20s again (I'm 34) I suffer from daily pains in joints, muscles, and just generally feeling drained...different day - different ache! ...even with practicing yoga!

I have only this year started to bring an ayurvedic practice into my life after practicing yoga for the past 5years, so I have already experienced first hand how healing a daily routine can be for pain management from my monthly cycle.
I definitely needed to go to India to get myself back to optimal health. It was a right eye opener to see how utterly important having a consistent ayurvedic practice is. This is a lifestyle and I have noticed a few reoccurring pains coming into my body since I have been home but I just have to really honor my DIET, rest and not overload myself.

I feel I was on a downward spiral of ill health even though technically I eat super healthy by any nutritionists view, but I was just eating the wrong food for my dosha.
While we are on the topic of food....OMG the food. Oh the food. The Prasad that was served to us was unreal. The colours, the textures, the prana in that food. Fruit has never tasted so good. And luckily I got to eat a lot of fruit! I got a few recipes from the chef in the kitchen and we got a cooking demo on how to make the wonderful coconut chutney. So blessed. It was so hard to not overeat there! You were never left with a small amount of food, we were given as much as we asked for. I found strangely on the fruit evening meal I found that hard to finish! It really filled me. Which made me realize my body prefers fruit for supper.

Lastly the rooms were beautiful, simple, comfortable, and good temperature. I was right beside the bamboo forest so I would see a range of animals...just make sure to lock windows and doors or the monkey thieves will get you! I would also recommend good earplugs for any animal noises. The bed and pillows were super comfortable and I slept well most nights.

It was so great to be able to take time to rest, be taken care of on all levels of your being and to be able give yourself time to actually check in with yourself and how you are feeling. I am so thankful to have been able to go to Pranamaya with the outstanding care, beauty and quality of experience. I hope to make this an annual event to deepen my knowledge, experience and continue my healing.

Thank you to all the staff at Pranamaya. Irish Blessings, Róisín.

True meaning of Ayurveda
Feb 2020
Having just spent 15 consecutive days of Ayurvedic treatment at Pranamaya Ayurveda in Thekkady, I can wholeheartedly recommend the centre if you are looking for the real Ayurvedic experience. Everything is done to ensure you find the way to your inner self with joy and healing through the great massages by dedicated therapists, the constant attention of the Ayurvedic in-house doctors who monitor your needs, pains, medication at least once a day, the delicious food prepared and served with care, all of it conducted as a beautiful symphony by Siby, it's director in whose hands you feel safe and have absolutely no worries.
Thank you to all and I will definitely be back next year as the cure is highly addictive!

Highly recommended

I stayed in Pranamaya for 3 weeks on a Panchakarma retreat. Very nice facility, situated on the edge of a bamboo forest, a walking distance from both Periyar wildlife reserve and the town of Kumily in beautiful Kerala. The Ayurvedic food was wonderful, doctors excellent and therapists well trained and highly professional. We felt a personal touch at Pranamaya that I suspect will linger in our memories long after the trip ends. Pranamaya is run by Siby who is himself a gifted masseuse and yoga teacher. He treated us to insights into Ayurvedic, Yogic and Keralan culture with rare generosity. I recommend Pranamaya wholeheartedly.

Very disappointed. Never again!
Feb 2020
My wife and I travel extensively in Asia and have had numerous massages in many different countries. Our driver recommended this place as being the ultimate in massage experience. We met with a lady in a reception office who was more concerned in trying to sell us the more expensive packages. At no stage were we asked about any medical conditions. We were both shown to separate rooms in the basement. We have always had a massage in peaceful surroundings. This was anything but, with a noisy generator and staff talking and laughing outside. The massage was one of the oiliest we have ever had with no possibility of a shower afterwards or even a clean cloth to wipe the oil off our faces. The masseuses showed no skill in massage and when I mentioned a problem with my lower back the masseuse either didn’t understand or have a clue. This has put us off any Ayurvedic massages again.

Body coated in hot oil. Yuck.
Jan 2020
A group of us went only for a massage. I was not completely happy mainly because previous experience let me able to compare against numerous sports, deep tissue, Thai and Chinese massages. I greatly preferred these others except for maybe the painful deep tissue one.

Aside from the spiritual component, which is strong but was barely mentioned, the massage itself was nothing special and actually inferior to the Thai and Chinese versions. This because a number of the techniques seemed simpler and not as effective. And a couple of them were extremely painful, one of which felt like fingernails cutting into the skin.

All this is aside from I really hated the pouring of hot oil on my head, massaging it in and then doing the same for the rest of my body. Ended up uncomfortably greasy until I could get to a shower.

Plus, although they said they accepted credit cards, after the "treatment" their machine was suddenly “broken,” an annoyingly common fee avoidance tactic around the world.

light as a feather
Jan 2020
As an "outsider" I was referred by Adel at Chrissies after a couple of long treks had left their mark on my calves. I didn't have the in-hospital detox etc but "just" the whole body massage with shirodhara ( warm oil on the forehead).
An orthopeadic doctor myself it was evident that my doctor knew what she was doing paying attention to each individual muscle. She used just the right amount of oil without overdoing it, wonderful warm soothing hands and albeit the muscle stiffness did not disappeared it loosened up, and the whole body was light as a feather, the mind relaxed and I left happy and grateful. The best Ayurvedic I've had.

A great place to experience Ayurvedic treatments
Jan 2020 • Solo
This was my first time experiencing a 2 hour Ayurvedic treatment consisting of massage, toxin extraction and shirodhara (head treatment with oil). All very enjoyable, in a clean environment with friendly professional staff who are comfortable with foreigners like me.
