are you in terested in siva temples? people say that visiting the shiva temples at vaikom. kadunthuruthi and ethumanur on a single day will bring prosperity. If you plan for visiting all these three ancient shiva temples plan to leave cochin before 7 am. Vaikom is about 14 kms from ernakulam . From vaikom , again travel for 12 kms to reach kaduthuruthi and another 12 kms for ethumanur. As they close the temples early it is better you leave cochin early so that you don't miss three temples. The deities are very powerful and the temples are very ancient.
So don't miss to visit all these three temples on a single day.

The Vaikom Mahadeva Temple is a temple for the Hindu god Shiva in Vaikom, Kerala. The temple, along with Ettumanoor Siva Temple, Kaduthuruthy Thaliyil Mahadeva Temple is considered a powerful trisome. The belief is that if a devotee worships at these three temples before 'Ucha pooja', all the wishes are fulfilled.
The Vaikom Mahadeva temple is one of the few temples which is held in reverence by both Shaivaites and the Vaishnavaites. Vaikom’s Shiva is fondly called Vaikkathappan. The Shiva Linga here is believed to be from the ‘Treta yuga’ and considered as one of the oldest temples in Kerala where pooja has not been broken since inception.

I came here with some friends for a long visit to Vaikom. In November each year they celebrate the birthday of Ganesha with a huge night lit festival with 20 elephants, flowers and music. It was a rare treat in the middle of an isolated village. Was an awesome experience that you will never find anywhere else - unique experience and worth the scary cab ride.

This is amoungs the famous shiva temples in Kerala. Also know as Vaikkathappan. "Vaikat Ashtami" is the major festival in Nov-Dec.
Its in proper Vaikom town which is 30 kms from Kottayam. Recommended to visit early morning as post 10 am its hot and one has to walk bare foot.

Best temple to visit with family. We usually give visit to this temple while visiting thaikattussery. Chanting namakam and chamakam personifies a persons soul and raises him beyond his limitations. The annadana seva in this temple is also good. People are very friendly in Vaikom area. Simplicity in dress code is expected while getting darshan for men. Usually mundu with shawl is preferred in white attire. Famous to be known as Vaikathappan kshetram.
Outside the main temple there are several small temples incuding a huge pipal tree.
Worshiping here with a lamp is considered to bring auspicious future for a person with pure mind.

The oldest and the biggest temple for Lord Shiva in kerala . The Lord here is highly benevolent he is known as Annadana Prabhu at this temple . Partaking prasad at this temple is highly auspicious . Visiting Vaikom , Kaduthuruthy and Ethumanoor Sri Mahadeva temples on the same day is very auspicious . A pilgrimage to Vaikom Mahadevar temple is complete only after visiting Sri Subramanyaswami at Udayanapuram . Offering of oil for lamps in front of the sanctum is auspicious here .
