St. Francis church is the oldest European church India and is located close to the Kochi beach. It is also the place where vasco da gama, the the Portuguese explorer who was the first European to reach India, was buried. However years later his remains were taken out and taken to Lisbon.

Interesting hand fan system to circulate air and tomb marker of Vasco da Gama was the only interesting thing to me.

Really close to the fishing nets but feels a world away. A quiet peaceful moment to sit reflect and admire this solid old church

The state in which the heritage is maintained at Kochi is stupendous. I am amazed beyond reasonable doubt that such upkeep of the place is a great attraction for a tourist.

Despite attracting many tourist and having a rich historic value, the church authorities have not mantained the property.

It's a must-see destination when in Cochi, I would recommend coming with a guide so you can find out about the different migrants to this land and how the church came to be. Also do stop at the sight of where Vasco da Gama was buried.

This church is old and holds a lot of history but has not much to show - it's a pretty simple church - but still a place of worship. If you want more religious history visit the Indo-portoguese museum which is also a rather plain institution but holds more artifacts like robes and ceremonial items.

The exterior is a simple Dutch-styled beauty, the interior could be any old protestant church in the Netherlands. The tombstone of Vasco da Gama is worth visiting and there are several others with Dutch inscriptions.

A nice pleasant stop to view the interior with classic high ceiling and design of this Catholic Church of Saint Francis. People of all walks of life can be seen coming in freely.

The history of this early church is the main reason for a visit. It is not spectacularly beautiful inside. We were fortunate enough to be with a person who spoke Dutch and translated a tombstone from the 16th century about a husband and wife and children who died and were buried there.
