We took a house boat on the backwaters of the coast, organised and run by our beach hotel. It was one of the highlights of our self drive holiday in Kerala. The boat was wonderful with two large en suite bedrooms, running hot and cold water, showers and a bath, small balconies with seating over the water off each room,... More

Beautiful surrounding specially when you visit it in a canoe. It's slow, quiet (no pollution). Take a 3 to 4 hour trip through the very narrow canals. An advantage of this is that the bigger (motorized) boats can can't come here.

Take what you find as a boat! Prices are similar, but if you, for example, are on tour as "two people" and want to have a one night to to the backwaters .... do expect to pay between 80 und 120 USD/ per person.... But than: expect tranquility, nice views, perfect scenery....great meals... I really recommend to take an expensive... More

This was by far the most disappointing thing we have done here in Kerala. The boat was old and broken down, there was no running water in the bathroom, the two AC's that were on board did not work, there was no place to sit or eat. The engine stopped work twice while we were on board. They were working... More

We did a two days boat trip, which was the highlight of our south India vacation. Very relaxing trips through the canals and lakes of the backwaters. A beautiful experience, not cheap but worth the money.

Ohh.. That was soooo beautiful, so picturesque. You just can't keep your eyes away and would like to keep clicking pictures all the time. Coz, I was travelling solo so I took one of the public boats and got down after 40 minutes at any random jetty. From there, I requested one localite rowing a very small boat to give... More

Take the ferry deep into the backwaters and hire their a small boat which brings deep into the backwater. Please do not go for the houseboats where you will be stuck on the big canals where also the public ferry is able to bring you but for a small boat where you get into the peacefull areas of the back...
