The roads leading to this place is bad, I was expecting a huge monument like a fort. Its way smaller in real life, its a protected site hence u cant access it either. Its right next to the sea as the history says but since its a v small site and not accessible no one really visits this place. Their was no one when we went their.

The Sultan Battery was part of the naval defensive system built by the Kingdom of Mysore during the reign of Tipu Sultan. This battery consisted of defensive tower that could intercept shops sailing down the coast of the Arabian Sea, which was a route used by the British during the conquest of the subcontinent by the British India Company.

In truth, there's not much to see. The only good thing about the battery is the views of the Gurupur river and the Arabian Sea. The battery is located about 100 metres from the ferry station to cross to Tannibhavi Beach.

Sultan Batery was built by Tipu Sultan to keep a watch of water vessels entering the river. This was like a watch tower with provisions to attack the boat if the need be. The structure looks good enough to also take fire from the ships.
What's quite painful is the sorrow state of affairs the structure is in. No maintenance no sight of anyone who keeps a watch of the structure, though there is a board which states that people damaging the structure will be fined Rs 1 lac by the Govt!
I get drawn by history and thus I came here. But if you do not have the same love for historical structure please do not waste your time as you would be thoroughly disappointed by the structure. The place is only habited by young couple to get some privacy and the view of the river from the top.

Sultan battery beach was fantastic and clean with fantastic sunset view. The churmuri, pani puri and the Gola at the beach side are the never-forgot ever mouth watering chats.

The place was very dirty. The battery is nothing other than a small minaret built by Tipu Sultan to keep an eye on the intruders along the river. It is very poorly maintained.

How many places are there in the world where a beach can be accsessed through a boat ride across a river! Sultan battery offers you this rare delight. The ferry rides are fun, cheap and available at frequent intervals. One can ride across and get to tannirbavi beach on the other side. You can even opt to relax by the river side. There are a few boating activities offered in the evenings too. The down side is that the place itself is not well maintained and there are not many benches or seating arrangements.

Sultan Bathery is a watch tower built by Tipu sultan of Mysore to prevent the enemies entering the land by the sea route. there is a myth that this place also was the starting point of the underground tunnels that were connected to mysore and bekal fort in kerala state.
This is a historical monument. Restored a few years back by the Archealogical Survey Department of India.
There is no fee to enter and watch this watch tower. Nothing much to see actually. except for a simple fort like small structure.
but, if you really wanna see something then , just next to this monument is a small ferry boat service, which you can take for cheap fare of Rs.3/- and cross the river for one of the most silent, clean, and undisturbed beaches of mangalore called the tannirbhavi beach. lovely place to spend an evening. the ferry ride's last ride back is at 7.15pm so make sure you get back before that time.

Sultan Battery is a must visit place for anyone coming to Mangalore. Best suited to be visited at evening, but can go around any time. Sultan battery in itself is start of beautiful place, with just a watch tower and lazy, mini beach, Take a boat ride from here, cross some woods and reach Tannirbavi beach. Frequented by college goers, on weekdays and office goers on weekends it is one of the most serene, undisturbed and beautiful beaches. I like it better than Goa beaches for relaxation. Just sit around, take a stroll in pleasant breeze or go full-on into water, without worrying about too high or too low waves. Has a pleasant current all year round.

The watch tower constructed by Tipu Sultan. It’s an ideal weekend evening gateway. U have to travel in a boat crossing a river to reach the beach side. Walking through the coniferous forest to reach is the best experience. It also has all the water sports available in a water games village. Kayaking there is worth trying out.
