The area
Neighborhood: MG Road
One of the most popular shopping, entertainment & business hubs of Bangalore that beautifully binds the old world charm of the British era with the modern cosmopolitan vibes is MG Road. It is one of the busiest main streets of the Bangalore Cantonment connected to its larger family of colonial streets that spread through the city, sprinkled with the charm of oldest buildings and churches. From hopping across cafes, restaurants and the oldest pubs & clubs of Bangalore near Church Street to street shopping at Brigade Road to surfing through best book deals at Blossom, MG Road is a convenient getaway for all locals who just want to chill. The evenings near M.G. Road are incomplete without a stop at U.B. City on Vittal Mallya Road for the swankiest nightlife with some of the best rooftop views of the city.

I purchased sandal perfume . Since they dont let us check the perfume, we just purchased it and took it home. After opening we realised it's not sandal but Jasmine perfume. Since this was just before covid I couldn't make any complaint as travelling was restricted. Next time I came with 3 of my friends for buying sandal perfume, since its a reputed shop , I requested them to let me check the perfume after making payment and in case it's not sandal, kindly replace it. I talked to 5 people and everyone said , talk to manager. And finally they told manager is not available, come tomorrow. What kind of service is this. I am paying for the stuff and not buying for free. Being such a big outlet , I never thought they will behave this way.. it's really disappointing. And I will never suggest anyone this place to buy stuff..because even after paying money, if it's bad.. they will not entertain you doesn't care about the customer at all. Really disappointing.

I visited this place last in October 2012 and I really loved it and that is why I visited it again but I did not find it as great as the last time but still, you should visit it once if you really like handicrafts.

The best place that I could find in Bengaluru for local crafts and the prices were pretty good. The purchasing process is a bit burdensome, firstly you get an invoice for the goods you want to buy which is then brought to the cashiers desk to be paid and then you are sent to a collection point to pick up your goods, but this is India!

At the junction of Brigade road and MG road, in an old building, run by the state government which means fixed prices.

We had bought carved elephant, exquisite paintings and they pack it very nicely for taking it overseas (gifting) as well for extra charge.

The Cauvery Emporium on MG Road is a large collection of all kinds of Indian handicrafts (clothing, sculptures, furniture) and a regular destination of city tourists. Be aware though that this is a government owned shop where prices can't be negotiated. Knowing something about how the art pieces themselves, I could tell the pricing is not competitive. Worth a visit, nonetheless.

I don't know why they are selling extremely priced articles here, we can get much cheaper and better quality in other part of the India.

I was brought to this place by a friend from Bangalore. This is a place where you can trust that silk is silk and sandalwood is sandalwood. Prices are very reasonable and service is very friendly but not overwhelming. You may pay cash or credit card.

Cauvery brings together multiple vendors into one shop with all prices clearly marked and a huge variety. It is a little non-instinctive on how you "check-out" from each vendor and then pick up your items after you pay (I had a local friend help me out here), but I was able to get souvenirs of all shapes and sizes for my entire family at one place.

I especially liked the fact that sales people left me to roam without feeling stalked.
The variety is good and plentiful. While it feels like a lot of souvenir tacky stuff it will feel more unique once back home.
Oddly there is no negotiation or at least it didn’t work for me. The prices listed are not cheap but it’s all in one place and there’s something to pay for the convenience.
