Malleswaram, that bastion of Tamilians in Bangalore, is another locale that is a whole world away from India’s silicon city. Watch maamis in their kanjeevarams haggle in the market, visit a temple or two, eat local food and browse through small shops. The Kaadu Malleswara Temple and Sankey Tank are oases of calm amid the bustle. A new arrival on the scene is the incongruous Mantri Mall, much reviled for being the harbinger of modernization in Malleswaram.

Malleshwaram means a sprawl of old and heritage darshinis and lot of temples. A lot of silk saree shops and a hustling Malleshwaram market. This place has a typical old age charm of Bangalore. Invokes nostalgia and melancholy feeling.

Sampige Road in Malleshwaram is always crowded and good place for shopping. One of the oldest area in Bangalore to observe and understand the real Bangalore charm. Attractions nearby Malleshwaram are: Jawahar Lal Nehru Planetarium, ISKCON Temple Bangalore, Mantri Square Mall, Orion Mall, Kadu Malleshwara Temple, etc., A very nice locality.

Malleshwaram is one of the areas where you will see an overlap of rich and middle-class, the old and the new, the young and the older generation, the temple goers and the coffee shop goers... Once upon a time, before the hundreds of apartments that have come up, Malleshwaram used to be more like a hill station than a bustling... More

Best place to by Hindu ritualistic prayer things right from flowers, Agarbattis to Sandalwood, Idols, Brassware, Prayer clothes etc. The place gets quite crowded during Festival season and bargaining at the footpath stalls is order of the day. Those who love to bargain would enjoy.
