Basavangudi is one of the few areas in Bangalore that have retained its old-world charm. A residential area with quaint homes, leafy roads, markets and temples, a walk here can take you back in time. Always buzzing with activity, Basavanagudi buzzes even more feverishly before festivals. There are numerous restaurants here, some institutions in themselves. This is a good place to feast on idlis (savory cake), dosas (savory pancakes) and the famous filter kaapi (coffee).

I visit this place whenever I want to buy something authentic and eat good food. You can find all typical desi shops selling Pooja items. Only problem is the availability of Parking place and you should be early.

Now the noisy, crowded city is called Bengaluru, those days it was pensioner's paradise, the air conditioned city and was called Bangalore. People , who were in service in different parts of the country had a dream that ,on retirement, they will settle in Bangalore. The settlers from different parts, from different professions ,speaking different languages and following different faiths... More

It is my dream to retire in Basavanagudi and live on a quiet street. What does this place NOT HAVE? Everything! Good places to eat, shop, temples, culture and most importantly, the original home town Bangalore look that rest of the city lacks. You should go to gandhi bazaar on the day before a major festival. The whole experience is... More
