Neighborhood: J.P. Nagar
South Bangalore’s friendly neighbourhood, J.P. Nagar is home to not only cute bungalows of prominent singers, actors and artists but also to multiple rooftop bars, microbreweries and pubs. While the well-known theatre for arts Ranga Shankara is a great hub for all seeking an artistic indulgence, Puducherry’s Aurobindo Ashram has a serene branch in the heart of this busy locality for those looking to relax and enjoy some quality time. Laden with parks, J.P. Nagar is inhabited by the affluent local families of Bangalore and at the same time known for the amazing array of street food including the bajjis available at Basavaraj’s Bajji Bandi. Among the many good parks in the neighbourhood, the Mini Forest is a great place for peaceful morning walks.

A controlled environment to sight lions, tigers and bears up close
We had booked the jeep safari for 10 am online through the website around 3 weeks before our intended day of visit. We reached at around 9:30 am and joined the waiting area for the jeep safaris to start. At sharp 10 am, we got assigned our jeep and the safari began. Overall it was a good experience with plenty of sightings of deers, elephants, lions, tigers and bears up close. They were in specific designated zones called “herbivores safari”, “bear safari” etc. The entry from one zone to the other was through gates controlled by humans. The zones with their gates reminded me of Jurassic Park! In that sense, it was a bit different from the other national parks that we had been to such as Bandipur. It has its own pros and cons. The controlled environment guarantees sightings. But then you don’t get a feeling of being in a dense natural forest. After the safari, we visited the butterfly park and zoo. The animals looked well fed and well cared for. All in all, a nice half day break from the routine.

    National Park
Bannerghatta National Park is located 2 hours from Bangalore by drive. It consists of mainly 3 activities: Safari, Zoo & Butterfly park. There are plenty of options for Safari & you are sure to see the animals on the safari, because they have been trained to live under the given natural habitat. If you want to book a private jeep safari then prior online booking is recommended. For Zoo, there are good number of different animal species and the Zoo is well maintained. There is also an option of boating which can be done if you have time, but not a must do. The butterfly park is nothing great, it's just a small park with small children's play area and some points to click photos. There is about 5 minutes walk to reach the butterfly park from Zoo, so you can visit it when you are near the parking area. Overall, a good spot for children day out.

    Don't miss the chance
One of the main attractions in Bangalore, and nothing much impressive in all aspects. National park safari was worth mentioning and also the butterfly garden and reserves gives you a bit overwhelmed. Ticket prices are high especially for the safari, but folks please prefer the air conditioned coaches.

    Amazing safari trip
Having been to a couple of safari in the past, I was not expecting much when I went with my friends to the Bannerughatta Biological Park. But my experience at the park was way beyond what I could have hoped for. We got the last tour at 4:30pm, which was supposed to be the worst because it was close to feeding time. But we were able to see the elephants, leopards, deer, lions and lionesses, and bears out in the open and very near us. We took so many pictures. The butterfly exhibition was also amazing. The guards took a perfect butterfly picture for us, and even allowed me to hold a caterpillar. What an exciting time we had at the Park! On a side note, my friend left her phone (with money) on a bench in the park before we left for the safari. The guard returned it to her with the money intact when we got back to the waiting area. All in all, it was an amazing experience. I have never seen so many wild animals at close proximity before!

one day trip - or half a day if pressed for time-
state of the zoo is not ideal in our opinion. dirty cages/living space and not large enough.

re the safari, we took the non AC buses. if your budget allows, better take the jeeps (AC) 6 seater. the buses, are tremendously noisy and drivers seem to be training for a rally competition. furthermore, the buses themselves are tremendously noisy (engines)

Safari is just awesome, best one we had so far! It was one hour of pure amazement. May be they can increase the price and extend it to little longer. Zoo area is also quite big and very well maintained. We booked the ticket online, took the first slot which was relatively less crowded and found everything very well organised. We went with our little one and it was an amazing experience all and all! Thank you to the national park staff!

No crowd due to Covid restrictions.Perfect time to enjoy without any crowd.
Jeep Safari with animals including Tigers, bears etc is really good.
Even the Jeep followed Covid standards by isolating the driver using partition curtain.
Butterfly park and zoo are also maintained well considering tough financial times faced now.
Zoo can be gone around on battery vehicle.
A must family visit.Adults will definitely enjoy Jeep Safari

We went to the national park on Friday. Due to pandemic, not many people were there. Generally, one has to wait for safari, even if it is pre booked but now they were waiting for bus to be full, so that they can start the safari. One needs to book the safari online as per the government orders. One can book only zoo or a combo of Safari, zoo and butterfly park. Safari is most exciting as one gets an opportunity to see the animals from close. Good for family and friends visit.

Located outside Bangalore City. If you are arriving through metro, come till konanakunte cross metro station and distance is 30 min through cab. Take a safari since one definitely gets views through it, zoo premises is also very large, it may take up a whole day to explore the zoo at normal pace. Kids will enjoy a lot. Eateries and toilets available and so is the bus facility in the place. Definitely a must visit place.

We went for a family outing with a 4-year-old on January 26, 2021. Generally, the zoo is closed on Tuesday's however since it was a public holiday (republic day), the zoo remained open (as per the circular on their official website). We booked online tickets to avoid queues.
* Firstly we went for Non AC bus jungle safari (11:00 AM) and really had a wonderful experience altogether. The animals are well kept amidst nature and looked very healthy as well. The driver was clever enough to show us the animals hiding behind the bushes and we witnessed the beautiful sight of the wild animals (tigers, white tigers, lions, bears, deer, etc) and the sight of the forest in itself was excellent.
* After that, with a lot of expectations we entered butterfly park (my daughter loves butterflies). But we could see more varieties of birds elsewhere than inside the park. The dome is excellently maintained with artificial waterfalls and a beautiful variety of flowers for butterflies to munch on! Except for the disappointing part of hardly spotting butterflies here and there, the experience was okay.
* Food: you will have enough options inside the park so need not worries about it.
* After food, we went inside the zoo. We took buggy as we were accompanying senior citizens along with us. The buggy driver could have been more explorative and tried to get friendly with visitors involved in the overall zoo show ride with a smile could have been a different experience. She stopped at each spot for 2-3 min to look at the animals but missed few spots too. Then we had to go all the way back again by foot to see missed spots which we felt waste of money for the buggy.
Overall the Bannerghatta National Reservoir is very well maintained and animals looked happily enjoying at their home.
Must visit with kids to get a feel of realistic experience with animals and adults to feel back their childhood again with them!

It was a very worst experience. Don't go for safari because they will charge 380 for safari and you will get nothing special there .all animal are inside the cage. You can have close view of only deer and bear from inside the bus or jeep . I already have visited many other national park but it was bad experience

On 29th Jan'23, myself with my son & hubby got to visit Bannerghatta National park, entrance ticket was around Rs.380 (including both safari & Zoo).

During Safari, spotted few animals - Lion, tiger, Bear, Elephants etc., then walked for few kms at the Zoo. Got to see varieties of animals, birds, reptiles etc., Elephant Sanctuary & Butterfly park are the other attractions available near by Zoo.

Lot of stalls are available inside for toys, eatable items, juices etc.,

Well spent Sunday with family.
