- Dr Abhishek BaliSiliguri, India3 contributionsUUntouched beauty but please don’t litter as the lake is considered holyAn amazing experience. On one hand you have the stillness of the highest salt water lake in the world and then you have tall barren mountains all around. You could sit there for hours and hours and not get bored. We drove from Leh to the lake. The roads are well made and newly paved which is a testament to the grit and professionalism of the good people at BRO. Some people may have shortness of breath around Durbuk, Tagstey but once you over come that things get better. Even with a day of acclimatisation at leh we were able to make the journey. There are plenty of places to have a quick bite while driving. The lake is considered holy for the locals so please please please be respectful. Avoid smoking and littering cigarette butts, plastic bottles and left over food as at that high altitude organic items do not biodegrade. Please clean up after you are done being on the shore of the lake. Let’s learn something from the westerners. Its a place of untouched raw beauty, let’s not treat it how we usually treat other tourist attractions in our country by throwing garbage and filth around after we visitVisited October 2023Traveled with friendsWritten October 15, 2023

The azure waters of the lake mirrored the clear sky, creating a stunning landscape. Sonu's insightful commentary added depth to the journey, sharing local tales and historical anecdotes. The crisp October air heightened the surreal beauty of the surroundings. Navigating the rugged terrain with Sonu's skilled driving made the trip both comfortable and exhilarating. - 83lovetotravel566 contributionsTurquoise blue waters surrounded by beautiful HimalayasBeautiful pristine lake surrounded by majestic Himalayas. We visited mid September and it was unusually warm during the day. The lake can be enjoyed anytime of the day but sunrise n sunsets are spectacular so don’t miss them. There are several tents around the lake but most of them have limited heating hours so plan to bundle up at night. Do carry oxygen tank on rental as several folks need it even after acclimating in Leh. Not all hotels have them available. People are littering plastic bottles and ruining this beautiful place. 1 night stay here is sufficient to experience this wonder and walk around.Visited September 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 18, 2023
- Debashis TDehradun, India2,296 contributionsStunning landscapeMany tourists opt for a one-day trip from Leh to the lake and return on the same day, while others travel from Hundar to Leh, and some choose to stay overnight at the lake. Renowned as the coldest among popular Ladakh tourist destinations, the lake also has low oxygen levels. The journey from Hundar to the lake is challenging due to a difficult and tiring road, making a one-day return trip less advisable. The sheer size of the lake is remarkable, visible from a distance and becoming clearer as you approach. Although you can capture pictures anywhere near the lake, there's a specific and popular spot known as the "3 Idiots shooting place," where tourists flock for a memorable photoshoot. For the best photographs, it's recommended to visit this spot in the afternoon when the sun faces the lake from the west. Morning visits may result in insufficient light as the sun is behind you, affecting the quality of your photos. Planning your photo sessions strategically can enhance the overall experience of your visit to this breathtaking lake.Visited May 2023Traveled with familyWritten January 11, 2024

We never thought such a hidden gem existed in India. Thanks to our lovely agent Nidhi who made us aware of such a heavenly location. We always prefer her team for all our visits to India. The locals and our driver were very hospitable to us too. They helped us with our permits and gave us tips on acclimatization. The place is at a very high altitude and you need to be fit to enjoy the adventures and terrains that surround this beautiful lake. We spent almost a week in Leh and faced no issues with language, food or safety which is always a concern when visiting a new destination. - selvakumar2015Chennai (Madras), India1,038 contributionsA breath taking and beautiful lake in the heart of Himalayas. An extra ordinarily beautiful salt water lake extending all the way to Tibet. The high altitude snow fed lake was also the location for the final scene of the block buster movie 3 idiots. A long journey on the not-so well laid mountain track will take you to Pangong Lake in about 4 hours. Enroute one see marmots and pashmina sheep. The toilet facilities at the lake are rudimentary and the place is littered with rubbish thrown by the typical Indian tourists. A must visit while in Ladakh. Set aside a full day for the trip. Take plenty of water and snacks as the availability of both are scarce. Recommended.Visited July 2023Traveled with friendsWritten June 11, 2024

Simple stay, basic food, no 9870260488 network just enjoy with family and nature. Visited pangong in 2009 when i was not known to many, and it was for the best. Its been spoiled with whole sham of 3 idiots photo areas and tourist flocking it while spoiling the peace and nature, throwing rubbish on road, shouting screaming etc. its supposed to be peaceful place but due to some the experience is spoiled, especially bikers who has no respect for nature. Water of pangong lake is brackish and that gives it a unique blue colour. U can choose to go from leh to pangong as road is in very good condition compared to hunder to pangong. I strongly recommend this place. It must be in wish list of every travellerVisited July 2024Traveled with familyWritten July 11, 2024

I am sharing my experience of the PANGONG LAKE trip.
In India, Ladakh has always been on our bucket list. obviously, Pangong Tso has always been on the top of the list.
The water in this lake shines green and blue.
Reaching here is also a great experience. This 5-6Hrs trip stretches where so-called roads just don't exist. Our vehicle jogged, jumped, bumped over roads. It took us around six hours of rigorous driving to reach Pangong lake.
The first sight of Pangong Tso lake, you'll get just before 4km to reach Pangong lake & it is mesmerizing.
I've attached the photo.
Some of the Bollywood movies have also been shot here. Like 3 idiots, Jab Tak hai Jaan.
There is crystal clear water in this lake. In the above video, it can be seen.
Pangong Lake situated at a height of approx 4,350 m. 30% of this Lake is in India and the rest 70% in China. The lake is assumed to be sacred to the locals and the Buddhists.
Wind flows very cold even in the month of June.
This lake is frozen in winter.
At last, this lake is amazing with a spectacular view.

The lake very huge with different colors at different times of the day, plan to visit in early hours as it gets chilly winds after 17:00 and one cannot stay near Pangong lake.
Those who are panning to stay near this place should book accommodation in wooden cottage as normal tents won't protect you from spine chilling cold during night time.
There will be no power after 22:00 so charge your electronic devices before hand or carry power banks. Moreover there will be no mobile network (Jio, Airtel or BSNL) available in this area so plan accordingly.

Ladakh was on our bucket list ever since we started travelling. Pangong Tso topped the list. Blue sky, blue water of the huge lake reflecting the sky was all pictured in my mind.. just waiting to be physically visualised.
However the road from hunder to pangong is a long one and at times very rough. In fact there are stretches where so called roads just don't exist. Our vehicle jogged, jumped, bumped over rock strewn river beds,as we passed the almost barren landscape. It took us about six hours of cautious driving to reach Pangong Tso Pangong Lake Lake
situated at a height of about 4,350 m.
At first sight pangong Tso with its magestic hue mesmerized me. As if by some n accident all the blue of nature had been mixed in the icy cold water of the lake. I have never seen such flawless blue. The lake is sacred to the locals and the Buddhis
Pangong is very very cold and windy. Right after sundown the place appears an abyss of darkness. I am not sure how the lake would appear on a full moon night, but my one night stay made me realise that pangong is for the bubbling youth.
We had a wonderful place to pangong retreat camp. It was very comfortable, well designed and had all modern amenities. I must mention that the service boys came over to provide hot water bags for my ailing legs. Food was good. The dining hall big and well lit.

Enroute Pangong Lake via Changla Pass - The journey is through a road under construction and so dusty but the destination is definitely worth it. The hues of blue more distinct with a bright sky and as the sun sets the lake mirrors the northern mountains.
There are camps to stay at the lake and there is nothing other than the lake for almost more than an hour away so do factor in that you have all essentials
Don't underestimate the cold, and wisdom says to wear layers at sunset so you are comfortable till daybreak
Beautiful sky for sky gazers
Bonus: You may site some rare wild life as you are reaching( will let you experience it than give more details)

Our recent trip to Ladakh was an experience of a lifetime, made truly exceptional by our amazing guide, Wajid. We were a group of six couples, ready for an adventure, and Wajid made sure every single day was filled with unforgettable moments. From the very start, Wajid’s warm welcome and caring nature made us feel completely at ease. He was not just a guide but a friend who went above and beyond to ensure our comfort and enjoyment. His knowledge of Ladakh’s rich history, culture, and landscapes was unparalleled, and he shared it with such passion that we felt deeply connected to this beautiful region.
The entire journey was incredibly comfortable, thanks to Wajid's meticulous planning. He provided us with a spacious, clean, and very comfortable car that made the long drives across Ladakh’s rugged terrain feel smooth and relaxing. One of the most thrilling parts of our adventure was the bike ride from Leh to Pangong Lake. Wajid arranged for us to have the best bikes, which were perfectly suited for the terrain. Riding through the breathtaking mountain roads with stunning views all around was exhilarating. His careful attention to detail and our safety ensured that we had an amazing time exploring Ladakh’s stunning landscapes.
Ladakh itself is a paradise, and with Wajid's guidance, we were able to experience its true beauty. The majestic mountains, serene valleys, and the surreal turquoise waters of Pangong Lake left us in awe. He also made sure we tasted the best local cuisine. Each meal was an exciting discovery, from delicious traditional dishes to comforting foods that felt like home. Our hotel accommodations were thoughtfully chosen, providing us with a perfect blend of local charm, comfort, and stunning views.
We couldn’t have asked for a better guide than Wajid, who made our seven days in Ladakh so memorable. His commitment to making our trip extraordinary was evident in everything he did, from planning our itinerary to sharing his deep love for his homeland. We highly recommend Wajid to anyone planning a trip to Ladakh. His genuine care and attention to detail will ensure you have an unforgettable experience. If you're looking for a guide who truly cares about making your journey special, Wajid is the one. For an extraordinary adventure in Ladakh, contact Wajid at 7006333454. You won’t regre

What a beauty!!!! It seems like the mountains has a blue carpet between them. Words are less to describe the peace this place has to offer. It mesmerizing. Weather was extremely cold upto -6° at night and the water too is very cold even on hot days.
The Hotels, Tents around Pangong are very basic, some of them do not have even power backup . Please do not expect any luxury in these stays. Bathing is also not a good idea if you are not used to extreme cold. Also, if you have health issues, staying here is a risk, but at times you will not have an option also, since it's based on how your iternary goes. We reached Pangong in the evening, and hence, we had to stay, since night travel was not possible towards Changla pass. Our phones were completely dead, even the bsnl ones.
The locals over there has established business for clicking pics on 3 idiots scooters, trunks etc. and Kareena's red choli. For scooter they said one person for 200, but we bargained for 4 PPL for 300.

We visited Ladakh in October (10th to 17th) 2019 and went to Pangong from Nubra Valley on 13th October. In October temporary stay options at Pangong gets closed, so we stayed at Tangtse ( Pangong Residency). We visited the lake in the afternoon with bright sunshine making the beauty of the lake awesome. Different colour of the water makes it heaven like feeling. We stayed for an hour or so and due to cold wind returned to Tangtse. The road from Tangtse to Pangong is also nice with wild horse seen frequently.

Visiting Pangong Lake is a truly memorable experience. If possible, please try to reach there by 3:00 pm. The lake looks magnificent with different colored waters in the evening, as compared to the mornings. Normally, the weather is windy and chilly in the evenings; and pleasant in the mornings.

The lake is so serene , the water is so pure that you would be scared of touching it that it might get polluted. The more you marvel at it the more beautiful it gets. The water appears to have different colors at different angle of scattering and at different times during the day. Clubbed with the backdrop of deserted mountains its purely scenic.

Its a must visit place for anyone visiting Ladakh. The best stay options are also not good enough but nevertheless its better to stay one night as day trip can be very hectic and it wont justify the time you can spend at this lake. We went near the lake twice during our 1 night stay.
