I visited this on my solo bike ride to Pangong lake. It's on Leh - Pangong road and world's second highest pass. Snow can be seen here throughout the year. Don't stay here for more than half an hour as it may cause High Altitude Sickness. A cafeteria is there that charges everything double.
A temple "Changla Baba Sthal" is there, dedicated to Lord Shiva. It feels great being here on this mighty pass.

In August 23 we visited Laddakh through RB VIAJE (Travel Agent). Trip has been organized very well by RB VIAJE.
Laddakh is a place where every one must visit once in a life time. High mountains, beautiful monasteries, terrific lakes, cool weather & scenic beauty make Laddakh most visited places in the world.
If you want to visit Laddakh with Family then must go through via good travel agent. I recommend RB Viaje from which I go there.
Property where we stay are excellent. Travel vehicle and other arrangement by them are very good.
So must visit Laddakh once in a lifetime which called Switzerland of India.

At 6:45am we left Leh and at 8:00 am we reach Karu permission letter which we get from District collector office are submitted here and we get the permit to visit Changla pass and Pengong Lake. In the valley shakti village comes. At 9:40 am we reach Changla top, it is 75 km from Leh and 17,586 feet high from sea level (MSL). High altitude affect may occur so take care Doctors warn not to spend more than 20 minutes. Reflection of sunlight may affect the eyes so wear goggle .Tea is served free of coast in the small cafeteria. Delicious maggi and a variety of tea- black tea, milk tea and lemon tea also serves here. Hot tea gives warmness. Changla pass is third highest motor able road. One temple of Changla Baba is here. Whole area is in the control of army. At such place a budget tourist cannot came frequently High altitude affect is there but I enjoy to walk on the hill and slide on the ice. We really enjoy at this naturally beautiful place. While returning to Leh at the bottom of changla we enjoy yak riding. It is a wonderful trip.

This pass is covered with snow almost 12 months and gets avalanches and has temporary structures at this place. This is the pass which joins Leh city to the Pangong Tso Lake of Ladakh. At times the snow fall here is very heavy that the road have to be closed due to the security of the tourists. Just after crossing the pass is the Army area which is highly restricted. While crossing the pass you can experience huge snow walls on both sides of the road and also most of the times there are cleared avalanches. One needs to have a permit to go to the Pangong Tso lake which can easily be obtained from the District Magistrate's office in the Leh city.

It's a ride from Leh to Pengong lake that will take you through the Changle Pass .60 odd km of snow on both sides of the pass before you reach Pangong lake. No photograph can fully capture the beauty of the pass neither the beauty of the journey to the pass. Do travel on a 4*4 SUV with snow chain. Do carry portable oxygen cylinder for the journey and do not stay at the top for more than 30 min.
It's a trip you should never miss .. You will not travel to places at about 17800 ft often in life.

This pass is en route to the Pangong Lake from leh. It is the third highest pass world at 17,586 feet. The infrastructure around the pass esp. the roads are well maintained by the HIMANK. There are amenities at the pass like a souvenir shop, a cafeteria and clean washrooms. Do remeber that there is a requirement of a permit to visit this pass. Basically in leh a permit is required to visit restricted areas likeNubra valley, pangong lake,Dhahan, tsomorori lake. it is made by district administration for 7 days on a nominal fee. All hotels, tour operators, taxidrivers get permit for u same day ,only u have to give Photo ID proof photocopy of all members. it is a single permit for all places.
Members of the Armed forces at the pass are very friendly and cooperative. They even offered us some black tea free of cost while we were there. The weather however at this place is extremely fickle and can change at the drop of a hat. It would be best to equip yourself with appropriate clothing ,wear woolens from Leh itself to avoid any high altitude sickness like headache, breathing problem and vomiting.

Changla pass is considered as the worlds 2nd highest pass in the world. The journey until there is truly mesmerising. The views of the deep valleys combined with small and serene streams will make you fall in love with the place. Since I visited in September it had already started snowing on the top and we could also sight fresh snow on the way up there. Amazing experience !

We had planned a one day trip from Leh-Pangong...Changla is about 3 hrs from Leh at a height of above 17000 ft. The view from there is surreal...there is a small temple, an army souvenir shop and a small tea stall...washrooms are available, though not very clean.

It snowed a couple of days back on Srinagar-Kargil highway... possibility can't be ruled out though its difficult to predict the exact dates... keep a tab on weather report though.

How difficult is this experience? Considering taking a group of people and wondering if this is too challenging?
