    Better than Gulmarg and Sonamarg
Gulmarg and Sonamarg are too touristy. Doodhpathri is like heaven on earth. Pristine, untouched beauty. We went there in the first week of March. It was covered by a thick blanket of snow. The Pony union guys stopped all vehicles around 5 kms before the point and quoted around 2000 per pony. We bargained them down to 900. They claimed that the vehicle could not go further due to snow, but it was a lie. We regretted our decision of taking the pony though as the walk is very pleasant here along a straight road - remember its 5 kms each way, so you may get tired. But we do understand we need to support the local economy. There were barely 30 tourists and around 200 pony guys, so they would get a chance only after 2-3 days. Feeling bad for them, we took the pony. Remember the bargaining happens with the union representative. I think the person who accompanies you with the horse gets a fixed price, ensure you tip them well (they are poor hardworking people). After a 5 km walk on the pony, we reached the parking lot. The pony could not go any further. Here there were guys who were offering snowmobiles (snow scooter). They were charging 2000 per person. We tried to bargain, but they were arrogant. Said that its a totally 8 km distance - which we later found out was a lie. The parking lot point was so pristine in its beauty. One can have maggie at the parking lot. The guys with our horses kept accompanying us saying that the union will shout at them if we are left alone since there are wild animals around. They did not leave us even though we came back walking on foot and accompanied us on their horses right back to the place where the union had stopped all cars/

    Most beautiful place around srinagar
It is the most beautiful place for a day trip from srinagar. A two hour drive. The car can go right upto the entrance point to the river. There is a 150 rupees toll that one has to pay. Also, the horses union will not let the car pass and will insist on taking ponies. We did not want to take horses so we just paid then rs. 500 to let us through. We also tipped our driver who helped in convincing the horse union. The scenic beauty around the flowing river is mersmerising. On the way back we had makke ki roti and sarson ka saag which was very tasty. Do not miss this trip

    A great visit
It is a very beautiful place and gives a feel of meadows of pahalgam without actually going there. Its about two hours from srinagar, and the route is beautiful, via small villages ,fields, and apple orchards on both the sides. We went there on a weekend, probably due to that,it was crowded with tourists. The locals were intelligent, hence stuck to meadows, while tourists like us,were keen on going to the river, where you need to hire a pony.We didn't want to hire a pony,so requsted a private car owner who gave us a lift and was kind enough to drop us till the riverside parking. Our own car driver flatly refused to take us till parking, probably because he was hand in gloves with the pony riders. Actually, the authorities charge a small fee of only 150 rs,and let your car pass. But our driver refused to co operate. It did spoil our mood for a shortwhile, but this happens everywhere in kashmir, and you need to keep your calm. Riverside was quite congested so we soon headed back, and found a lovely meadow where sheep were grazing and spent time there. I need to mention Heaven's inn restaurant in Badgam where we stopped while going as well as coming back, and it was a great experience. The owner was very warm,he served us personally. One more thing. This beautiful place is being littered by locals as well as tourists alike. Please maintain the beauty!!

It has 2 entrances/corridors, one for the meadows and another for the access to river Shaliganga. There is no need to hire a pony to reach the river stream. We were duped by the driver and the pony wallahs who informed us that vehicles cannot go near the river steam so we hired ponies @Rs. 800 each but later we found that people had taken their vehicles right upto the end point near the river and there was a parking spot for vehicles as well. So we felt cheated and duped unnecessarily. Otherwise decent place.

Not a good time to visit in Winter because driver will drop you 10 km before Doodhpathri and you have to take horses to see the view points which is nothing but covered with snow all over.

Drivers does not carry chain for the tyres.
Locals also suggests that we should have visited in Summer only.

What a place it is ... Instead of Going to to pahalgam for costly horse ride to watch mini swiss and instead of going to gandola ride of Gulmarg for a scenic view, I will advise to visit this Hidden Secret of Kashmeer, "DudhPathri" ,,, utilamte place... you will get a better feel of Mini swiss and better view than gulmarg and extremely easy to reach from srinagar in just 1.5 hours drive. Horse riding is also only 800 rs per horse. you can have a fantastic view in summer also and in snofall season also.. it is very much safe than pahalgam horse ride. So must visit to this place is required..

its about 50 km from srinagar and mini gulmarg. Virgin Snow and extremely romantic place to play snow . One can take horse ride to the top ( 5km @ Rs 800/- per horse) or walk about half km and play in the snow. Also enjoy hot maggi noodles which is available there.

Good place to visit for a day excursion from Srinagar.

You will see a long grass land and at the end you will get river( The water looks a bit milky(ddodh) on which this place is named.

This place is not very popular among tourist so you dont get too much crowd like in gulmarg/sonamarg.

You will get ponywala there to take you till river but if you can walk prefer to go by walking ~3 km and it's a motorble road so walking is very easy.

This is a beautiful place where you can walk in the meadows and basically just enjoy yourself. No need to hire a pony..enjoy the walk. But the pony owners will continuously be around you and asking you to hire a pony. This is due to no system in place to hire a pony. Also there are no basic amenities in place for women travellers. The washroom in doodhpatri area is closed, the one at the entrance of the toll gate is in shambles.
On the way there are various stalls serving makki ki roti, noon chai & kahwa - definitely not to be missed.

For a peaceful heavenly experience and to be one with nature, this is the place!!! The area near the stream can get a bit noisy and crowded with pony folks and tourists, but the large meadow and scenery before is to die for. We stopped by a roadside native stall for salty tea (namkeen chai) and roti. And it was a heavenly experience. Just nature, a local lady serving tea and the clouds. Must experience.

We visited Doodhpathri after staying at Yusmarg. In hindsight, it would have been better to trek from Yusmarg to Doodhpathri which would have taken almost 5 hours.

The place is beautiful and is yet to turn 100% touristy. There will be pony wallahs who would be after you to take a pony but you can cover the path on your own if you can walk for 30/45 mins at a stretch.

The place is beautiful to say the least. Shailganga - the milky white river flows with all its might making the place out of this world.

Don’t forget to have Makki Roti, Saag, aachar and Kahwa one you are entering or leaving Doodhpathri. They are at roadside and an experience in itself.
