I would like to keep my review crisp without much "Masala". My first thought was being a person with no background in textile, "should i go?". My answer now is "Yes". Every one should go.Its not just about textiles, its about knowing our Culture, not just Gujarati, but Indian culture. I came across history through textile. Seen like never before.... More

This is the only textile museum in the country. Has very old artifacts dating back to prehistoric time. The family maintaining the museum are also textile mill owners and art lovers.

I've never seen another place like it. Takes a very limited number of people per day through their collection, only 20 according to their website. Entrance is only during a short time period in the morning. Plan accordingly, it is well worth the trouble to make time for this fascinating place. The museum also hosts visiting scholars in textile arts.

The Calico Textile Museum houses one of the most amazing collections of Indian textiles, and also has a stunning collection of Chola bronzes, and now a recently opened small collection of Buddhist art. You need to book at least a week in advance as numbers are limited to small groups at any one time. The collection is truly wonderful, and... More

The guided tour runs every morning (they had dropped the afternoon tours at the time of my visit) and have to be booked in advance. Be warned - the guide is very knowledgable but is a bit of a dragon e.g. not drinks allowed in the museum and no exceptions for ill people! No photos and no shoes to be... More

A good place to start our tour of Gujarat as it gave us the background of textiles before we visited relevant towns and villages in the state.
