Seth Hutheesing Kesarsinh, a prosperous 19th century Ahmedabad merchant, was the one who began the building of this very ornate stone temple in the mid-1800s; after his death, it was completed by his widow, Harkunwar. The temple is estimated to have cost about 10 lakh rupees at the time, now equivalent to approximately 75 crores.

Even on the outside, the temple complex is very intricately carved in the Gujarati-Maru style, with lots of carvings of deities, musicians, dancers and so on. To enter the temple, you have to take off your shoes and leave them on the racks outside. Inside the main shrine, even photography is not allowed. The temple building has profuse carving all over and a striking floor of inlay work in various colours. Small shrines with heavily gilded and bejewelled statues of the Jain tirthankars stand inside the main temple as well as in the corridors surrounding the courtyard in which the temple building stands.

Worth a visit, because the carving is so impressive.

This temple is located in the Bardolpura district, just outside the center of Ahmedabad. He was born in 1848 by merchant Sheth Hutheesing in honor of the 15th century. Jain Thirthankara namens Shri Dharmanatha erbaut.
As usual with the Jains religious group, the stone carvings are of excellent quality and carved in marble. In the large courtyard, where one is not allowed to take photographs, one can find the effigies of all 24 Thirthankaras. The spiritual leaders of the Jain. Unlike the Hindu deities, these statues almost all look the same. They can usually be identified by the companion animal, whose representation on the still images allows an assignment.
In front of the main building stands a recently built tower, a copy of the famous tower of Chittor/Rajastan. A visit to this temple is nice, but sometimes overwhelms the viewer.

We were awestruck by this temple, the carving is sublime! We went Saturday morning and enjoyed listening to the temple music. It was really peaceful and calm. You can take lovely photos outside but inside just enjoy the experience, no cameras allowed.

This temple has been in use since it was built in 1840's, the architecture seems timeless, the details of the carvings and the walls of the temple are amazing.
There was a service going during our visit, we sat down and took it all in, the hymns, the music and the environment was very calming for me.
Need to dress well, temples in India will not let you in with shorts, or skimpy tops, carry a shawl to cover your upper body for ladies, that is acceptable. These are places of worship for the locals. Ask the staff, if you are in shorts or an open top, to give you a sheet to cover yourself, to look dignified to enter, your trip will not go in vain.
Entrance is free, there is a donation box, I did leave a small gesture tip to show my appreciation of my visit.

A very very pretty and fantastically maintained jain temple. The temple itself is about 175 years old. Intricate carvings add to the beauty of this masterpiece. Would recommend people to actually sit inside for alteast 20 min, rather than just walk around, unbelievable positive energy bout the place.

Very serene place, a must visit when in Ahmedabad. We went in the morning around 9am and enjoyed being there. Sat down for a while on the chairs kept in the main temple while chanting was going on and it felt really good. The carvings in the temple are also very appreciable.
Few tips: This place is not very crowded. There is parking available in the temple complex itself and also there is place to keep your shoes just outside the temple. No strict dress cide, just don't wear very revealing clothes.

You need extra pair of eyes to absorb the beauty and another lifetime to fully appreciate the efforts and beauty. I fell in love with the place. Must visit place.
I visited at noon time and though it was very hot, once inside the temp is better. There is also a museum next to the temple with a lot of information. There is a small mess whcih serves food to all at 60 and food is great. It was my 1st meal in the Gujrat trip n we relished it. Simple and complete.

Some structures take your breath away at first sight. This marble temple did just that! Its construction was completed in 1848 by Sheth Hutheesing’s third wife Shethani Harkunwar as an ode to the 15th Jain Tirthankar, Shri Dharmanatha. (The temple was the unfinished dream of Sheth Hutheesing.)
An elegant, carved pillar – The Mahavir Stambha, welcomes one to the temple complex. The temple itself is exquisitely carved. The guide pointed out various details, including the akhanda jyoti (perennially burning oil lamp) to the awestruck tourists who tried to have a look at each nook and corner, as well as the vaulted ceiling, as the engravings all over were so meticulous and commanded attention!
We prayed to various deities and emerged from the temple, but were reluctant to leave it without a snapshot of the beautiful and majestic edifice. Again, we wished that we weren’t rushed….. Some benches could be installed in front of the temple to let the visitors soak in the divine ambience.

Anyone who sheds footwear is allowed entry into this lovely temple. The eye just feasts on the carvings all over (ceilings, walls, columns)!
Beside this is a smaller (active) temple where, on the particular winter morning of our visit, Brahmins in their long unstitched white cloths gathered for a pooja. It was a beautiful sight to see ancient tradition persist.
