Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage (September 15, 1765 – December 21, 1805) was a Portuguese Neoclassic poet, writing at the beginning of his career under the pen name Elmano Sadino. In 1786 he was appointed guarda-marinha in the Portuguese India navy, and reached Goa where his satirical sonnets irritated the authorities and early in 1789 he obtained the post of lieutenant of the infantry company at Daman (Portuguese Damão); but he promptly deserted and made his way to Macau. He seems to have resided in Daman for just 2-3 months. A tiled house on the left of the Moti Daman fort entrance (from the jetty side) bears testimony to his extremely short sojourn. There is a marble plaque o the house that bears the poet's name. The door is locked and I'm not aware whether tourists are allowed entry as on both occasions that I have visited the fort, I found it closed.

The powerful genius depicts deep link with Indo-Portuguese-French, a mystery and due significance unnoticed by many historians. How ever, the House of Blockage near main gate of Fort ,which is closed is a tribute immemorial.

This house is really playing with ones imagination! It is just sitting there. Not a ruin, but also totally not developed. Wonder what one can do here. I would buy it! However, it also has something mystical in this state. It did attract my interest a lot! I should start reading Bocage. The house is nested delightfully against the seaward porch.

A side visit can be made to this place during the visit to Moti Daman Fort, given it is located inside the Fort. It gets its name from a Portuguese poet who stayed here briefly. We could only see it from outside as it was closed.

A small house attached to the fort at Moti Daman. Seems only travellers go to this house which is apparently being used as a warehouse by the locals.
