In sharp contrast to the chaos and filth of Patna city, the Buddha Smriti Park is a wonderful relief from it all.
The park is surprisingly well maintained - green lawns, well kept gardens, soft chanting or serene music playing throughout the grounds. Sensible and kind maintenance staff. The central hall with Buddha's relics could be better maintained, but it is still a clean quiet place, good for a few moments of silence.
The best part is the Buddha museum: a brilliant story telling of the different aspects of the Buddha's life using different media - video, photography, painting, terracotta, sculptures - beautifully fusing modern and traditional art forms. Was thoroughly impressed by the neat presentation

Patna City is a very congested and ill maintained but out of the blue this pops up. It is the epitome of cleanliness in a place where the word is probably unheard of. It was quiet and amazingly calm while situated in what is arguably the loudest part of the city.
A must visit place if in Patna

It has a Buddhist Stupa.. in contemporary style.. with relics brought from several countries..
a meditation centre...
stepped landscaped area... open to sky..
a watch tower of an old jail is also preserved...
fountains installed inside the compound used to function once.. now they dont..
It is a peaceful place.. to be visited with family..friends.. or even solo...
It you have travelled a lot.. this place will appear average..
The landscaping done in the compound.. is something new in context of Patna and Bihar.. if you are a local traveller... you will definitely love it..
one tip.. if you have a connecting train from patna junction... which is after an interval of 2-3 hours.. you can surely visit this place and relax.. It is less than 500 meters away from railway station..

It was a holiday on 13.1.2013 and I decided to go to Buddha Smriti Park at Patna with my family. Childrens were also interested in visiting this newly built park. I took my camera to take pictures of this newly built park and for uploading on facebook, google, flickr, so that whole world can see pictures of this park. when we reached here, I found that there is no parking facility for cars/bikes here, I had to park my car far away from the main gate of Budha Smrity Park. Any how I found a place and parked my car , came to the main gate , purchased tickets and while entering at the main entrance , guard told me that you can not take camera inside, I requested him to allow me , but he flatly refused, meanwhile I saw people were taking photograps with their mobile cameras inside the Park Campus, there were some press photographers also trying to to enter the park with their cameras, they were told by the guard that they were also not allowed with their cameras, I told him that people taking photograps with mobile cameras, please allow me but he flatly refused. Sadly I threw the entry tickets in dustbin and came back.

Buddha smriti park was once the Patna jail. but what a great work has been done over the years . The Govt is sure in for an image change and such an effort is commendable. Apart from being just a site seeing ,The park has literary as well as religious value. Dalai Lama often visits this place.
I just hope the authorities dont let it turn into a prominent DATING PLACE like most parks in delhi.

This is a great park to get away from the chaos of Patna. The further into the park you go the less traffic noise is heard. The park has a museum, library and the stupta. The walls are all lined with frangipani forests. Sadly not in flower at the moment.
I sat in the shade, drank water and read my book. Well worth a visit if you wish to get away from it all.
