Story Behind this is:- Tenth Guru, Guru Gobind Singh Ji and his followers took a halt at this area while on an excursion. There lived an old age woman from whom Guru Ji asked something to eat. She had very less food, the food was khichdi, so she expressed inability to feed his followers. Guru Ji said Amma you start feeding and don't worry. The old lady kept serving Khichdi from her Handi (a pot), all followers had a full stomach and the handi was left with the same amount of Khichdi at it was earlier.
A gurudwara was built and named Handi Sahib. Since then, khichdi is given as prasad to the devotees here.

This Gurudwara is located close to son river 20 kilo meter west of Patna Sahib.Six years old Bala Pritam(Guru's chiid name) was returning back to Anandpur Sahib with family & followers in1728 from Patna Sahib. It was the first stop and his follower Mata Jasni Devi, an old lady offered Khichri (cooked rice & lentcil) in a earthen pot.The entire sangat was fully served from that Handi. So it is later known as Handi Sahib. Bala Pritam gave impression of his foot which is woshiped here. Mata Jasni converted her house in a Dharmshala. The present Gurudwara was completed in 1980. Khichri is the main Prasad served here .

GURUDWARA SHRI HANDI SAHIB is situated in Danapur Patna City. Situated on distance of 20 Km from SHRI HARIMANDIR JI PATNA SAHIB, SHRI GURU GOBIND SINGH JI(GOBIND RAI JI) while going to Punjab stopped here. When GURU SAHIB left for Punjab many people followed him. People here gave warm welcome to GURU SAHIB and sangat. An old lady served everyone with pot (Handi) full of Khichri. She requested GURU SAHIB to stop there for some more time, then GURU SAHIB told her that so long khichri would be cooked here and served to sangat you will feel my presence here. That lady kept serving the sangat with khichri through out her life. Along with GURU SAHIB was Mata Gujri Ji and Mama Kirpal Das Ji.

If you are going to visit Patna Sahib, then do not forget to visit Gurudwara Handi Sahib. It's about 20 km away from Patna Sahib. Not as big as the former but the location is the USP, located near Ganges.
