Better to avoid

We felt like it was our bad luck that we visited this place. Dirty, over-crowded place. You have to struggle a lot to park your car and if you are lucky you will find place for parking. Not worth.

The cold waterfall .... where have they built it
May 2016 • Family
We were visiting Rajgir and Nalanda in the month of May. We were told that there are hot water springs somewhere in Rajgir, A guide in Nalanda told us to explore Kakolat instead which has cold waterfall. It was about 80 kms further and will take us couple of hours. We were game for it. We had kids with us and they would definitely enjoy bathing under a waterfall. We just thought how safe it would be. Afterall we are in Bihar.

After 20-30 km roads started becoming narrow. From the wonderful roads till Rajgir from Patna to no man's land it seems. We must be on the wrong route we thought. We crossed checked with multiple people on the highway. We continued on the bumpy ride. Bihar tourism had put a lot of signages of Kakolat as well. After another 30 kms the narrow roads gave way to sorry roads. There were villages on both sides. We wanted to turn back but stuck on. We were just praying it was not desolate place.

There was greenry all round now. Finally we started seeing hills. There was no waterfall to see yet. Then we saw cars, jeeps and hundreds of vehicles. We couldn't believe that there were thousands of people there. There were hundreds of people queuing up to climb the hill. People were literally falling over each other. This was anything but desolate.
We came to know that there was a fair going on. People had come here to give "sacrifice". You could smell meat being cooked all around. Along the climb you could see the water trickling down ... from the waterfall. People were in their bathing clothes.
We were advised not to go further as we had small children and it was very crowded as well.
We decided not to. We came back and searched for videos of the Kakolat fall. What a miss. We came so close to the waterfall and yet could not enjoy a bath.

Some other time maybe. For sure.
