It's a big pond constructed during the rule of Ahom dynasty. Apart from natural beauty one may enjoy boat ride too.

Hello People.
I recently visited the Land of Sagar’s, Sibsagar or Sivasagar, Assam. The place is situated nearly 3 hours from Dibrugarh Airport and well connected by road and rail transport. There are 4-5 Ponds or say natural lakes in Sibsagar and one of them is Joysagar Lake. The lake look so serene and calm. The vitality of the place is so attractive that one can spend hours exploring these lakes. One can go for boating here and also there one Joysagar Devi Dol where you can spend quality time. Hotels and Tourists Houses are available at a very economical rate. A must visit place in Sibsagar.

Joysagar is located in Rangpur which is about 5 Kilometers away from Sibsagar. Joysagar is an artificial lake built by an Ahom King in memory of his mother Joymati, from whom the name Joysagar is derived. This is one of the largest man-made lake in the country. The lake is a calm and peaceful place. It's nice to visit it in the evening and enjoy tranquility. Boating facilities are available. There are several temples situated on the banks of the lake. Prominent among them being Vishnu Tempe and Shiva Temple.

The lake and surrounding temples could be better maintained. It has boating facilities. The perimeter road is not at all good and also partly shutdown - don't plan to drive around the lake. Its better till Joysagar college and recommended to return with a U -turn.
