- Mandar DPune, India108 contributionsGo only you are museum kind of personThis is great collection of many artifacts, art items collectibles over the world. It is enriching experience to see many types of art especially ivory, children collection, Statues, clocks any many many things. It has 2 blocks eastern (Where you will see Chinese, Japaneses and eastern artifacts), central where there are various sections like ivory, arms, clocks etc and westerns. On the ticket there is small map and collections are listed. It is very much walk and you get tired in 5-6 sections only. If you are tight on time or kids are tired then before starting select the sections you want to cover, arms, toys, children, clock, invory are very interesting which kids also enjoy. You can do selective round else you can do for the whole muesum. Go early so you get some time to see read and take pictures as well. If you have big group then it becomes very difficult so plan accordingly. Please do spend at least 2 hours for quick tour or 4 hours for whole museum. Go only you are museum kind of person.Visited November 2023Traveled with familyWritten November 20, 2023
- GSD250London, United Kingdom565 contributionsEngage a guide, to help navigate quickerYes, it’s busy, but it has so many aspects of Hyderbadi history. Many treasures of exquisite design from delicately decorated jewel boxes, to gory weapons, crystal ware and a fascinating collection of coins. Rooms may be noisy but just wait a few minutes and they usually emptyVisited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten January 13, 2024
- Sapan GuptaChennai (Madras), India124 contributionsAmazing arts and collectibles in Salar Jung museumA very well maintained museum. The ticket prices are very less just Rs 50 for adults and Rs 20 for children. They are charging 50 rs per mobile which I feel is fine. The museum is well organized with different rooms on a separate level. The main attraction is the veiled Rebecca and Cuckoo clock. They have provided a floor map on each ticket which is kind of helpful. They have a food court which has a lot of food items and it is required since one can spend the whole day in this museum. For kids there is a lot of learning going through each room and I can see the excitement in the kids faces. The museum houses unique collections of art and collectibles from around the world.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 16, 2024
- PANDEY JIVaranasi, India2,050 contributionsGreat Collection.Salar Jung museum is a private collection/museum. It showcases over 43000 artefacts/collectibles from different corners of the world from different centuries. The museum was nationalized in 1960's. The collector was a minister to the Nizam of Hyderabad. It's a neat museum but hiring a guide gives you a better insight. There's no record of the source of collection, details are missing. Overall a great place to visit.Visited January 2024Traveled with familyWritten January 25, 2024
- RupawalaSurat, India457 contributionsAwesome - not to miss.Amazing items with craft fully & systematically arranged. Some of the items are awesome as lady marble statue with veil, one side man & back side woman, some rare artifacts, weapons, cloths, utensils, crockery and so on. Little tiring as to see all items you have to spend more than 5 to 6 hrs. One should visit & spend quality time.Visited January 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten February 9, 2024

I am not a big fan of museums and when I travel we rarely stop to visit them, but local people highly suggested I pay a visit to this museum so I did I was told to allocate about 90 minutes at least and that was probably just enough time there are endless rooms across two or three levels with massive amounts of art to view it was almost too much to take in some of the stuff was just amazing. You could wander from room to room for days. Very incredible and definitely worth see there’s a lot here and if something is an interesting you just skip that room or skip that level and they’ll be something else around the corner. There was a large film presentation going on but I missed it so I’m not sure what it was and there were lots of school kids attending as well. If you are into museums you might need even more than 90 minutes. Definitely worth a visit I would recommend it. There did not seem to be much air conditioning and I went in January a cool time of year I could imagine during the high summer it might be a little uncomfortable with the heat.

You need at least 3 to 4 hours to have a look around this sprawling complex that has many artifacts to grab your attention. As the Museum closes by 5 PM, reaching there just after an early lunch would be advised. Paintings and sculptures are the highlight of this popular museum and ' Veiled Rebecca' is the star.

Reading reviews and descriptions of this museum made it sound very interesting. This museum is made up of one man’s collection allegedly the largest collection making it up a single Museum. I do realize that museums in India are not up to par with like museums in the western world but the descriptions I read made it sound as if this museum could stand with some of the best museums in the world, it does not. The items in the museum vary greatly from western art, Asian arts, two some interesting archaeological pieces from the Indus Valley. That being said there really are no exquisite pieces that you must see most of the collection was dated from The 18th and 19th centuries AD, not very old pieces. So all in all the collection was not very impressive, at least to me.
The actual museum building was also a let down. Some rooms were totally stripped of all the cabinets but were left open, everything needed to be painted, and there were big empty rooms with dirty furniture laid out in no special way. Because this was the first day after reopening due to Covid I can understand why the food court was 90% empty but it look like the gift shop has been closed for a very long time so there was no place to buy souvenirs. I was very much let down by this museum nor would I recommend it to friends or family. But as most everywhere else in India the people, the staff are great and I really appreciate their hospitality.

The Salarjung Museum is not only one of the biggest museums of the country with an exhaustive list of items for visitors to see, it also boasts of some of the most unique sculptures and antique paintings in the world.
Parking could be a problem on a holiday or a Sunday given the crowd it attracts from across the country. Keep a good 4 hours in hand once you enter the museum if you want to cover everything. Be prepared to walk a lot through the many alleys and corridors of the building.

The private collection is clearly one of world’s best. The state in which art is kept and displayed in the museum is abhor-able. The miniature art has no lighting, many of the statutes have a films of dust on it. Despite these conditions the museum draws many visitors. On many occasions I saw visitors touch the art work and at one location (Western Block) I saw 2 guards eating inside the hall ! Go fast as I believe this fantastic collection will soon be destroyed.

This museum is never ending and has so many antiques that are so unique that you may lose track of time admiring the various collections. The grand attraction is the oldest running clock and the lady in the veil. All art work is commendable and unique.

The largest one man collection in the world. Many artifacts are unique, no where in the world can be found such pieces. Should not miss is the Clock when hourly bell rings, a white marble statue with a veil, and many more such awestruck art pieces.

Great collection, especially the Eastern Pavilion housing exhibits from Japan and China.
For us, the collection of walking sticks/Canes,Ivory collection was good.
Couldn't see the famed watch collection, one clock in the inner courtyard.
Outstanding piece is the Veiled Rebecca, a 19th century sculpture from Italy. Its housed in a glass cage and the mirrors behind give 3-D perspective of this masterpiece. Take your time to appreciate this sculpture.
Take your earphones along, focus on the QR code at entrance to the different Pavilions and you get a audio tour.

Neat and clean but in dire need of good signages as there is a lot to see in this museum. Loved the Ivory room and the Veiled Rebacca statue. There is a lot of history enclosed in this huge museum. Need a good 2-3 hours to give this place justice. Also The Musical clock demonstration draws a lot of crowd at noon. Some of the lifts were not working which impeded the elders in our family from visiting the upper floors!

Hi, it's about Rs. 30 for parking. It's inside the museum complex itself.

Why are you wailing for entrance fee discrimination (?) at SJM?
How much do you pay for Tower of London? If you have ever visited it, know for sure. Its £26.80 =2435.25.
Actually Indians are stupid crooks. They don't have positive intelligence.
Solution lies in charging at par for all in visitors' currency. Unit currency for all almost has same buying power. One cup of tea in India in street side stalls costs ₹ 3-5, where as it costs £3-5 for kitchen window stalls in UK.
SJM must make the entry fee like ₹20, £20, $20, DM20, €20 for stopping heart burning and cosequent wailing. Except British Museum, all charge hefty entrance fee, be it Louvre, Hermitage (Эрмитаж) $ 17.95
, Tritiakov Gallery, National Art Gallery, Madame Tussauds, Eiffel Tower (€25=₹2031.06).
Display of insanity is not a good idea. Once upon a time life in the planet after WWII became as lovely as flower, visas were free and easy to obtain in single day, most Museums were charging almost nil, allowed camera or even bags inside without any restriction, no security body search. Except for few exhibits like Picasso's painting at National art gallery, one could snap with flash gun even. Subsequently, stupids made the human civilisation slide to worst. Entrance fee hike, security checks including frisking (strip searching in the offing), deposit of everything have become nuisance as the downgradation of human civilization continues. Every body is reponsible for it, people not knowing how to live life worth living.

Firstly, i disagree with disrespecting any nationality's citizens, Secondly, Europe and US are totally different from India, the difference in currency, in monuments, in it's citizens is clearly visible. I believe that comparison does not exists here. The fee is nominal according to me for everyone. This fee would in turn contribute to the comfort of the tourists itself. The disparity in fee is due to the disparity in currency. 1$ = 71.38 Indian Rupee. Salarjung museum clearly displays the fee for Indians and the Fee for Foreigners. A particular country has not been named, it is viable for any tourist and there are many countries and their currencies.
Thirdly, security is a must in every monument in India for the preservation of our rich heritage delicacies and for the protection of anyone who is visiting that place. To avoid any attacks and any anti activities, security checks are a must. If security would have been nil, our cultural and heritage would had been destroyed and we would not had been able to preserve them.
As Indians we welcome our guests and believe it as our duty to protect them.

How easy or difficult is it to find parking space for 4 wheeler vehicles?
Written August 26, 2017
I think it is easy to find a parking place in Hyderabad . It has become overcrowded though but near salar jung OK
Written August 29, 2017
Yes, they charge for taking pictures. You have to purchase that separately. Truth is the museum is not photo worthy. Plenty of Kodak moments elsewhere!
