- asdaSapBangkok, Thailand630 contributionsMust visit place to say you have been to HyderabadWe went there by Uber. The driver dropped us of at one end where there wereca number of jewelry shops and less pedestrians. The Charminar was in the middle of chaotic street sellers and tourists. Once we reached the entrance, less people were inside. Climbing up uneven staircase of 52 steps, I can view nice scenes of streets below.Visited December 2023Traveled with friendsWritten December 13, 2023

Beautiful building but the vicinity is really crowded as it’s very close to the bazaar. The weather in December is really nice though I’d caution to wear a mask and watch your belongings.Visited December 2023Traveled as a coupleWritten December 14, 2023

- Amit SahuAhmedabad, India148 contributionsCharminar one of overcrowded placeCharminar one of Hyderabad's most prominent historical landmarks. While Charminar is a significant cultural and tourist attraction, the surrounding markets and congestion have created an environment that is increasingly difficult for both visitors and locals to navigate. The markets in the area are severely overcrowded, making it arduous for people to move freely. This overcrowding not only diminishes the overall experience but also raises serious safety and accessibility concerns. The sheer volume of pedestrian and vehicle traffic is overwhelming and poses risks to those trying to explore this iconic site.Visited March 2024Traveled as a coupleWritten July 22, 2024

Try to visit early morning or late night to avoid traffic. No entry ticket is required. U can't go up but see from the down only. The small market around is very vibrant and colorful to buy some souvenir items like famous hand bangles . You can drink Tea with bread Pau and cake from the old famous shops for an experience. Also famous Hyderabadi Biryani u can try here. There is an old Hindu Devi Temple next to the charminar which signifies the culture of religious coexistence.. Almost synonymous with Hyderabad, the Charminar has been called as ‘Arc de Triomphe of the East’. A visit to the Charminar in Hyderabad is as compulsive as a visit to the Eiffel tower in Paris. Constructed in 1591 by Mohammed Quli Qutub Shah of Shah Dynasty, Charminar, means four turrets (char- four, minar-turret) in Urdu.
It was designed by Iranian architect Mir Momin Astrawadi, who had settled in Hyderabad. This square shaped monument with four pillars, one on each side is inspired by the Shia "tazias".
Its location amid the hustle bustle of Laad Bazaar of the Old city takes away some sheen from this iconic landmark of Hyderabad and could give an anti-climactic feeling to the visitor. Nevertheless it is a must see.

I had one day to visit several places in Hyderabad. So I Arranged for a driver and struck out for the day. This is one place I definitely wanted to see, and climbed the steps to the top of the gate to see the views. The place was crowded (and Jan was off season) and full of locals selling almost anything. I wish I stopped an bought more items but I was on a mission to climb the tower and take photos. THe line to climb was long but moved very fast. It was not pricey to get in, and the climb was not bad. The spiral stairs were no worse than cathedral tower climbs in Europe. Beautiful views and the crowds were friendly. I assume pick pocketing might be an issue but i was careful to not bring anything but my camera and very small shoulder pack. I definitely recommend a stop here and encourage you to take time to stroll around (I wish I did more).

Charminar is one of the most popular tourist attractions in Hyderabad and we had visited the same during our sightseeing in Hyderabad. The place is very crowded with small vendors occupying the entire road outside the beautiful heritage structure. We enjoyed biscuits and tea at the nearby Nimrah Cafe and enjoyed the beauty of the Charminar right in front of us. One can go inside the Charminar up to a certain height and we saw many locals standing inside the Charminar.

The best time to go is early morning around 6.30 am. Only then you can enjoy the architecture and splendor in peace. The place will be relatively quiet and you can click the pictures to your fill. After 7.30 people start putting up makeshift stalls and it starts getting crowded. After spending an hour here you can go to Mecca Masjid which is close by. At 7.30 in morning there will hardly be people around and you can see and click pictures in peace. After an hour you can stop to have a cup of Hyderabadi tea at any of the hotels in the vicinity. At 9.00 am the gate opens for walking up to first floor of Charminar. Be sure to be among the first few. Only then you can see and take good pics. Avoid going to Charminar after 9 am because by then the crowd, traffic, hawkers and the garbage makes the place lose its charm.

Especially on the weekends, the colours and tastes are breathtaking. But brace for enormous crowds. Yet, we never felt scared or concerned. But yes, there are thousands of merchants selling every cheap bangle, scarf and shoe you can imagine with dozens of fruit vendors and drugists. All in the open space around the historic monument. But brace for the crowds.

Charminar is an icon of Hyderabad. It is possible to alight up the steep stairs to get a birds eye view of the city. However, the stairs are steep and made in a circular fashion, so aged people or anyone with even slight discomfort in walking should not explore this. The view from top is amazing. The insides are adorned with carvings. The ticket counter closes at 5.30pm. We got our tickets at 5.29 pmso we were lucky that way. The area around charminar is nice for street shopping especially bangles and jewellery.

This is very busy monument but worth queuing up to see. Once you've climbed the narrow stone staircase you are rewarded by lovely views of the city, fine stone carvings and multiple arches. Well worth the visit and it probably take about an hour all told

I first heard of the Charminar years ago by way of a cigarette brand which featured the structure on its packages.
The iconic symbol of Hyderabad dates back to the 1500's and is an interesting structure with 4 Minarets and 4 arches. The area surrounding it is a busy street and jewelry market. You can find inexpensive bangles (bracelets) as well as very low priced 'pearls' which would make a cute item for young girls. There are also a number of Pearl Shops supposedly selling the gem that the city is famed for. Not being knowledgeable about jewelry I stayed with the costume jewelry and found the market to be enjoyable.
