As our main reason for choosing the Jaz Fanara hotel on Ras Um Sid bay was the house reef just off the beach, we were thrilled to discover it was even better than we had hoped. Every day we discovered a new species of fish and thank goodness we had invested in a Collins Coral Reef guide on the Red Sea fishes so they could be identified. We snorkeled from the pier on the left of the Ras Um Sid bay to the farthest pier on the right over a few days. We came out of the water just near the Farsha cafe on one adventure, but were very sad to see piles of plastic bottles and plastic debris floating on the sea and on the beach. It seemed as though it had come from the trip boats 20 ++ that pile into the bay daily, to bring there guest's to snorkel. Shame on them for allowing such pollution, don't they understand that if the reef is destroyed they won't have any livelihood, as no one wants to snorkel on a dead reef.

Amazing to snorkel. I stayed at faraana reef hotel in january and am booked to stay at reef oasis hotel next year booked these places specifically as I'd read it was good for snorkelling and it was. The second u put your feet in the water there are tons of coloured fish everywhere amazing the reef comes at you quick at the sides then drops over there are llatoons that you can walk out over there reff though the water underneath is so clear. There are fossils all in the sand cant wait to go back

Go to ElFanar Beach, Original est. 1992 (right entyway when you reach the parking lot) you will have direct access to the jetty from that beach and the Italian Restaurant Nausicaa serves a fantastic Pizza (the best in Sharm El Sheikh).

The craggy rocks are not ideal for sunbathers. It has rocks, this beach which makes me to tell everyone to be careful in this reef beach.

Do not visit this place unless you already have booked hotels here like the Marriott Renaissance which by the way is not worth the stay either. Ras Umm Sid is a nice Sharm el Sheik coral wall, depth varies but normally it is about 30 meters, but it can have waves and strong currents.

I can say that I have seen a lot of beautiful beaches and this one can be one of the top ones.... Slightly too crowded at this time of the year but the beauty stays and that's the point! Amazing for snorkeling if you like that! Lots of different beaches to choose from and everyone seems very friendly and helpful. Standard price for a bed is 25 Egyptian pounds. If you are ever in Sharm, you cannot forget to pay a visit!!

Stunningly beautiful! Spent as much time as possible looking for new types of fish. We weren't disappointed.
Well worth staying at the Jaz Fanara Resort, to have unlimited access to the reef
