5 years ago I visited Sharm with my then 13 year old son for a week of diving. We ran into a group of technical divers, and I felt an immediate gadget lust, and a sense of adventure, and a feeling of this being the next level of diving. After returning that afternoon I wrote on Facebook we would be back as soon as my son was old enough.
That is the background for this review.
Last month we had a vacation, we had not been diving since last summer, and we realized the time had come. Checking out dive centers around we came upon Reef Oasis Dive Club (from hereon RODC), and saw their great reviews in overall, and even more important their availability of the PADI TEC courses.
We got in touch with them ahead of time, and made our inquires, exchanged quite a few messages, and made sure we had a common understanding of what we were looking for and their requirements.
That is always recommended, checking out your next dive ahead of time, and even get in those minor details like sizing of rental equipment and such. And more important constraints and limitations, so we were well prepared when we arrived.
Pavel, our TEC instructor is one of the most experienced instructors around, with more than 20 years experience as a diver in the military, before spending the last 16 years as a TEC instructor, having more than 500 dives below 100 meters in the last years.
WhileTEC diving is inherently more dangerous than regular recreational diving by nature, we have rarely felt safer than going through the course with him. Most important was his ability to showcase the personality traits recommended for TEC diving, going forth as a glowing example, and teaching by his nature.
His calm, his self-suffiency, and teamleading qualities makes us want to return for the next courses.
Being a great teacher, making sure we got the technical lessons, always having room for questions, and answers based on all his experience also adds to our knowledge we are returning.
All in all, 4 days filled with hardcore theoretical and practical exercises, before a final dive, swithcing off bottles at 21 meters, and a passed exam.
What's not to love?
And after returning home, I've been going through how to improve my recreational diving based on this, there is so much to learn in this course that helps you improve what you're doing below the water.
Five star dive center, five star course, five star instructor.
