If you are in Nuweiba you MUST take a trip to Coloured Canyon. Believe me it is worth it! The Canyon islocated about 12 km north of Nuweiba, . It lies in a limestone mountain chain named “El Tih”, where, it is said, Moses was lost for 40 years. The area is only reached by 4x4 vehicles and you need to be accompanied by guides. I stayed in Mousa Camp in Nuweiba, when I made this trip, and the owner, Mousa Hassan, who is very nice, organized the tour for me.
Upon arrival to the entrance of the maze, you have a couple of hours walk ahead of you along with some light climbing.
As the name of the canyon suggests, the sandstone has been mineralized and stained in a variety of attractive ways transforming the cliffs to a spectacular multi-colored stone. The canyon itself is a water-eroded, narrow and twisting path formed over thousands of years into the rocks, surrounded by spectacular 60 meter cliffs with narrow slots with drops – sometimes referred to as slot canyons - beautiful sculptured walls and cliffs made of sandstone with layers of amazing colors such as pink, purple, silver and gold.
The path is little more than a meter wide and in some places the surrounding cliffs reach 80 meters high. The Canyon is almost 800 m long. Be sure you wear comfortable shoes and don´t carry to much because you also must climb sometimes.

I was so excited about this trip. I will upload some pictured for everybody to see the beauty of the nature. Great! But if you are not prepared (equipment, water and fitted to climb sometime at 50% ) please stay on the pool side.

The colored canyon is brilliant & wonderful, the formation of the rocks & ravines is just stunning, all those who wanting to go will not be dissapointed, the only advice i will give is that when booking, do not let the excursion people trick you into doing, the canyon, blue hole & shopping in dahab, a 3 in 1 package as they call it very good value for money they said, as i found out the latter 2 to be extremely boring, dahab had about 4 shops all selling the same thing & the blue hole is basically for divers but you can do that anywhere in sharm, if you want to do the colored canyon, then tell them that it is only the canyon you are interested in doing, the 3 in 1 package is a rip off as you dont get to explore the canyon fully, the most you will be there is roughly about 45 mins. Next time i will just be doing the canyon hopefully & not get drawn into the other rubbish they try to flog me.

PAY ATTENTION! South Sinai is full of Canyon (google 10 top canyons) and although you’re always told that you’re going to COLOURED CANYON it is not always like that (this is what happened to us and we know other people that had the same ‘issue’) and they take you to other Canyons (we were took to Wishwashi Canyon, also nice but not coloured as the famous one).
Moreover, our guide told us that Great Canyon, Coloured Canyon, Original Canyon, Whatelse Canyon are the same and there is only one Canyon, obviously, the one we visited 😅😅.
By the way, check people ‘real’ pictures and you’ll notice that although the Coloured Canyon seems really beatiful, the famos awesome picture used to annouced it everywhere is ‘super fake’ 😂😂!
So summarizing, the Mountains and Canyons in Sinai are really nice, but beware of not being cheated with the place you’re told to go and the really one you’re brought!!

Not for the faint hearted or unfit. We did this trip from sharm el sheikh it is about a 2 hour drive and then another 20 minutes off road, really rough, brain rattling driving. You then climb down into the canyon, which is stunning, at a couple of places you have to clamber through holes. Make sure you where sensible footwear. After about an hour there is another steep climb to get out. It is stunning. Make sure you take plenty of water with you it is incredibly warm in there.

We travelled as a group of 6 to the colored canyon at dawn. I arranged the trip with meditation village who were very helpful and sent us a car with a very experienced guide to pick us up from our hotel at 4:30 am and drop us off at 10 am. We spent around 2 hours inside the canyon enjoying the beautiful hike in this amazing spot. We also stopped by a small oasis on our way back to take photos. The whole trip will remain a memorable experience and certainly among the best activities to be done in Nuweiba.

This is a truly gorgeous walk through the canyon. The colours of the sand and just the stunning scenery is well worth getting up early for.

The walk is about 1half hours long and at some places it is not for the faint hearted. There is the walk down to the canyon and then the climb back out of the canyon at the end of walk but inbetween there are a few challenging obstacles along the way such as a very narrow gap where a rock has fallen. At this point you basically have to slide down about four foot on you're side but it was good fun and all part of the trip

We travelled from Sharm which is about two hours and then you leave the nice tarmac of the road and travel across very very rough desert which jolts your poor body all over the place for about 20 minutes (it feels like a lot longer). This is described as the safari part of your day. Take some pain killers prior to this part of the journey - I suppose its all part of the trip but it needs to be said how rough this part of the trip actually is.

We had a lovely day, got some stunning pictures and memories to take home with us.

At the start of the walk is a place you can get chocolate, water, cola and go to the toilet. The toilets are very clean oh and make sure you get a full visa as there are a number of police check points along the way.

Oh and take plenty of water - although windy when we went it was still very hot.

We crossed the Coloured Canyon on the second day of our trek along the "Sinai Trail".
Even before arriving at the canyon, we saw, far and high in the hills, the remains of some built structures, now in ruins, dating back to when (until about a decade ago; as I understand it) the excursion here also included catering on site. Today, however, no structure is present, the excursions are more epidermic, and the desert has regained its rights.
Coming on foot from the north, the canyon is preceded by a wider corridor, where the sandstone walls (however very scenic) are a few meters apart and therefore they allow easy passage. Then the narrowest part begins, which includes widths of less than a meter and sharp uphill gradients, almost blocked by boulders, to be overcome with the help of our Bedouin guides. This part is very reminiscent of the narrowest, most well-known canyons, which are found near Petra (Jordan).
We continued climbing on a plateau, characterized by a splendid example of what geologists call "pavé du desert" (desert pavement). This plain of flat stones, so regular as to seem almost human work, has a shiny black color, due to the surfacing of manganese salts; which has earned these formations the name of "desert varnish".
