When thinking about visiting Cairo, my main problem was the lengthy bus ride. I can't sleep on the bus, and the idea of reaching the pyramids drowsy and grumpy wasn't very appealing. So Raafat, who always finds solutions to any problem, suggested to go by plane.
The organization was spot on, having the driver and Raafat pick us up at the hotel and taking us to the airport, with Raafat sending a photo of us to the guide in Cairo, and then meet with our guide Hala at the Cairo Airport. Upon our arrival back to Hurghada, the driver was already waiting for us, with Raafat on the phone keen to learn what we've experienced.
Hala is extremely bright and well educated, acing the Egyptian history and with a diploma on hyeroglyphs. First, she took us to Egyptian museum. One would think that without the famous mummies (who were moved to a different museum at the beginning of April), the museum would have lost all the appeal. However, Hala overwhelmed us with information on the artifacts displayed, charming us with stories about different kings and gods.
After visiting the museum, we experienced the highlight of our day: lunch at the rooftop of a restaurant overlooking the pyramids. The view was just astonishing, it was the first time in my life I've experienced the word breathtaking in full. I needed a few minutes to grasp the fact that I'll be eating chicken and rice by the pyramids.
Hala suggested doing a camel ride around the pyramids to the Sphynx. That was another wonderful idea. Although it feels at first you're falling off the camel any minute, you soon get used to bumping and start enjoying the captivating view.
Afterwards, Hala was open to suggestions and took us to a high-quality perfume store and a store with different 100% cotton wears.
The people in Cairo are a lot more respectful than in Luxor. In Luxor, the agressive, uneducated peasants can literally attack you with their junk and requests for tips, whereas in Cairo they take no for an answer and move away.
My recommendation is to let Raafat organize your trip to Cairo. I promise you won't be disappointed.
