Went to NKE to do an "intermediate event" for 2 weeks...
I went from being able to ride upwind with an ugly technique and dodgy transition to learning the right balance of body position, edge and bar pressure for light wind conditions then onto little pops, pops with grabs, pops to toeside, down loop transitions and even the backroll (not quite there).
The organisation and communication around booking, transfers etc is flawless as Martina is super ontop of the logistics.
The instruction from Gogo and Hammed is at another level. If you think that you're far enough away that they won't see you being a bit sloppy on your technique, think again! It's clear that they really push you to progress and passionately care about you getting the most out of your lessons.
On one light wind morning, 3 of us sat happily supping coffees watching the empty tranquil lagoon lookinh forward to a break from kiting when we hear "heyyyy! What are you guys doing??? Let's go"
Of course after the session, all three of us were grinning about having the lagoon practically to ourselves and how good it was to learn the lightwind launch and riding skills...as the wind dropped over the last few days, many people couldn't kite but all the NKE students were still having fun riding.
Whilst you're on the beach between sessions, you really notice how many of the other instructors from other schools have radios but are having a beer chatting to others or are not even watching their students.
NKE is based up at Elements which is ideal for beginners and learning. Huge, wide and spacious lagoon with barely any rocks! You have use of kite & board storage which is exclusively for NKE and a lockable box for your day things. The drying racks are monitored with CCTV and in 2 weeks i didn't lose any kit from the drying racks.
It doesn't matter where you stay, I was at Panorama Bungalows which was ok. The toktok is 30LE each way from downtown to Elements and takes about 10mins med for a wetsuit but if you're learning, bring thick soled shoes. Don't go for the ultra soft soles where your feet can feel every grain of sand as there is the very occasional shell in the sand which is sharp with long spikey bits. In 2 weeks i encountered one such shell which was impaled into the sole of my boot.
Will be back for sure!
