boating companies that offer whale watching in Ecuador operate from Manabi, which is a small village in Puerto Lopez. Operators are equipped for tourists and visitors and can guarantee a safe and pleasant trip out on the waters. Most tours take visitors out to Isla de la Plata, or Silver Island, where not only whales but many other species of wildlife can be seen. If you are brave enough, you can approach some of the local fisherman and ask them to take you out for a fee, but it is advised to rather enjoy your whale watching experience with certified tour boats. The information center in Puerto Lopez will be able to answer all your questions in regard to the whales and is extremely informative.

Visited Salinas in January 2013 with my family. The beach is great and the malecon (boardwalk) is great. Whether you are taking a morning walk or evening stroll, the malecon serves its purpose. The beach is great as well. You can rent a tent for $5-$10 and just sit there till your hearts content, while enjoying the many, and I mean many, food vendors that walk by. Try as much as you can because the food is great and affordable.

Walking the Malecon in Salinas is fun. There are stores, cafes, and bars. Things are priced a little higher than a block away due to the location and being able to see the water.
The downfall is the sidewalks are in bad repair. Lots of holes that you could step into and break a leg. I would warn elderly, disabled, or people with kids to be extra careful.

Salinas malecon looks unsafe, not clean. Many drank individuals, people peddling around do not what, the is not rest rooms available, with the ulterior consequences. Lack of nice places to grab some food. Pass

For the number of people who come here the Malecon is too small and dangerous. Dangerous in that on the northern end the drop off to either boulders or beach is quite high with no railing of any kind. The walkway gets really crowded and with one simple push, you could go flying to serious injury. The restaurants are mostly overpriced with high drink prices. Food is just mediocre. The beach is not eye candy.

Plenty of places to stop for a drink or a bite to eat but most are way overpriced. Walk a couple of blocks from the seafront to find more local restaurants, lower prices and arguably better food albeit in not quite so smart surroundings.

My first time visiting Playa Salinas was back in November of 2012. I fell in love with its simplicity of the beach town for the most part and wanted to return someday. In 2015 I had the opportunity to return and I was most impressed with the renovations to the Malecon with the addition of the bridge and boat docking station. The Salinas Malecon is an attractive feature to compliment the beach town that seems to be growing annually. The Malecon is a a busy place during the day especially on the weekends and a peaceful and safe place to walk at night. You can arrive here by bus or taxi. It is also easy to catch a taxi along the Malecon if you wish to travel to other places (e.g. Loberia). I enjoyed my morning walks along the Malecon before it got too crowded around noon. You can find a variety of restaurants buy walking the Malecon. The famous sandcastle can also be spotted from the Malecon and it is great for photos. Venders offering boat trips from beach for 30 minutes for $25 can be found walking along the Malecon. The Malecon is the #1 attraction in Playa Salinas and is a must experience. Happy Travels!!!!

The Salinas Beach has a wonderful Malecon walk along the seafront. On one side of the road is the walkway and beach with many musicians performing.
On the other side are rows of high rise condos and hotels. Seafood restaurants, parrillada restaurants, bars, nightclubs, beachwear shops, and sidewalk BBQ's cooking traditional Ecuador dishes, ice cream shops, pizza, and much more!
Several horse drawn buggys click clack down the malecon drive tth
Never had any issues and police keep a presence.

We atyed in Salinas for a week, and it's a great spot to unwind. The malecon features many great restauranst, and the people watching is great. We were strolling on the wall one evening when out of the corner of my eye, i saw a huge wave approaching. We ran onto the road but still got swamped. The rest of the evening the waves crashed over the roadway,...pretty exciting for Salinas.

We went there for three days and two nights. Nice people and great views. Study up on your restaurants ...., please! There are many "BAD" places to eat there...., and "FEW" really good ones. "Smokin BBQ" is one of the best. The owner and his wife are always there. And, great food at a great price..., and an unbelievable support staff and a great view of the water.

Estimada,
Saludos,
