Javier was our instructor, and is a great guy, very competent, safe and ticks all the boxes. It gets 3 stars because I”ve been to places that are both better, cheaper and more fun. There was no wetsuit for my 11 year old. She toughted out 2 hrs in the water in her 2mm shortie while the instructor was in a dry suit. Anna had to try 3 regs before we found one that worked and my analyser for Nitrox took overforcing to plug in. Anna could not dive due to a cold and when I asked the Jorge for any potential of a refund he simple pointed to the terms and conditions. I thought he might let up a bit since 4 of 5 of the family completed the courses and filled up his agenda. When I booked the courses there were 2 prices $649 and $549. Jorge said that I was making the cheaper price up even though I had copied and pasted the email too him. It turned out to be an OLD price... He just felt all about the money and is trying to run the show from the US. Some of my family did their open water in Australia, it was cheaper, more fun, better equipment and more to see underwater. Perhaps the Galapagos is just not the best place to learn. All the family really liked Javier. I am both PADI and SSI instructor certified so this is not a first time experience.

Toby, Thank you for your review. A couple comments: - Yes, Galapagos is an expensive destination. No way around that. I'm not sure about your fun comment as that is quite subjective. In any case, you are a very experienced diver and know each place has it's own charm. I understand Australia might be something more interesting for your family. Especially with warmer waters and less challenging dive conditions. I respect your preferences and there's nothing we can do about that. - I spoke to Javier about this and he mentioned that several options were offered in terms of suits. It is my understanding that the kids decided to go with the suits their own, those 2mm suits for Australia you mentioned in your review. Regarding the terms and conditions, yes I held the terms and conditions you agreed to when you paid for our services, not sure how that is a bad thing. A few comments on that regard: - You made a reservation with me months in advance, over 6 months if I remember correctly. Your reservation was for Dec 26, 27 and 28. The busiest dates in the year. We held spaces for your family and rejected several bookings to honor your reservation. - Furthermore, the boat can hold 6 people and yet we honored a private experience for your family, 3 people. You didn't pay a charter premium for this, just the normal price for courses. - You got a 10% discount for bookings of students who pay Open Water and Advanced Open Water as a package, even when the courses were not for the same individual (which is the whole purpose of that discount). I didn't hold the terms and conditions there! - We sell a space and time frame on a boat. That's what you paid for. For personal reasons, one of your kids was unable to use it. We offered alternatives to take her on Dec 29, you never responded. There is usually a fee for changing dates, I didn't even mention it to you. Yes, I currently live in the Us and manage a business in the Galapagos. Javier is my brother and the manager. Not sure how that is wrong either.

The course was really good, also compared with my open water course. The instructor, Javier was very kind, enthousiastic and made me feel safe, especially during the night dive. Also nice, we saw a lot of animals during the dives! I recommend this diving facility to everyone! It was a pleasure, thank you!

I did my Advanced OWD at TipTop Diving and it was a great experience! They have good gear, the instructors have a lot of experience and it was a lot of fun to go diving with them. They are very easy-going but still serious. The diving spots for the course are not the best in Galapagos, but perfect for training and you still can see a lot of stuff. So I would totally recommend TipTop Diving.

I recently completed my Advanced Open Water Certification with Javier and it was an absolutely amazing experience. The course really helped me fill in all the holes my open water certification had left and I could clearly tell how much I had improved in just a matter of two days/5 dives. Javier is extremely knowledgeable and an extremely skilled instructor. The course far exceeded my expectations and has made me significantly more confident underwater. Would love to come back to Tip Top for the next step!

I did my OWD certification with Javier and it was a great experience. He was extremely accommodating, personable, and professional. Having never been diving before, Javier guided me seamlessly through the process and was a fantastic instructor. Highly recommend Tip Top Diving if you are in Puerto Ayora.
