We just returned( July 2021) from an 8 day cruise on the Fragata. Our guide/naturalist- Roberto, was spectacular! The entire Fragata crew went out of their way to make us feel comfortable. The ship could need refurbishing, but it provided all of the comforts needed to thoroughly enjoy our trip. The food was good, but it seemed there was just enough for all passengers especially since we were active the entire day engaging with various activities. Our family of 5, visited several islands and gained significant information regarding the islands, the animals, and the evolution of the Galapagos Islands. This trip far exceeded our expectations. Bring Dramamine in case of rough sailing( we had 2 rough nights). Most of the snorkeling activities were geared for experienced snorkelers. Daily briefings were given to explain all upcoming activities. Be prepared for a full day ( 6 am till 4 pm) . We LOVED our experience!

My 21-year-old daughter and I just arrived home after spending 7 nights on the Fragata. We did tour C with a total of eight passengers. I cannot emphasize enough that the tour itinerary, guide, and boat exceeded our expectations in every way. Roberto, our guide, was knowledgeable and has the perfect relaxed attitude that is engaging and comforting. As you can imagine, every passenger has different interests and some desire more information than others and Roberto made sure he knew everyone’s special interests. Roberto truly loves his backyard and wants to share it with you. By day 7, our group of passengers became a small family. Thank you Roberto for the wonderful slide show – it was the perfect way to summarize the tour. As others have mentioned in their reviews, the rooms are small and the bathroom even smaller but you really don’t spend much time in your room. The itinerary was a perfect mix of land tours, dingy rides, and snorkeling – you won’t be bored. It is truly amazing the abundance of wild life and every stop is unique – my favorites were Sante Fe and snorkeling at Kicker Rock but every stop is special. Yes, some mornings are early (be ready at 6-7AM) but you get to sites when other boats are not present, the temperature isn’t too hot, and the lighting is perfect for photos. We only had one other boat at some of the sites so we had beaches and snorkeling all to ourselves. And I know we saw much more than many more expensive boats – toward the end of the tour I spoke with a passenger from the other boat and all he wanted was to see a shark – by then we had snorkeled with four different types including hammerheads. The food is plenty and delicious – I think they purposefully had extra papaya once I let them know that it was my favorite fruit. After every outing, we were met by the smiling crew with snacks and drinks. The decks are ideal for lounging, watching the ocean go by or the frigates following the boat, or chatting with fellow passengers. Often Roberto would join us just to chat or show us the constellations. We had one major issue with a crew member – when we let Roberto know, this crew member was removed from passenger interactions and my understanding is that he has since been let go which shows you how much Tierra Verde values the opinions of their passengers and the professionalism of their crew. The other crew did their jobs with expertise often behind the scenes but they were also open to questions – the captain happily answered my questions about the boat and let my daughter steer for a few minutes. I only wish I spoke better Spanish so I could get to know the crew better. Some considerations: 1) As I mentioned, the boat was half full and we sailed when COVID restrictions were still in place so few other boats were touring which meant our tour felt intimate. We also all had similar expectations. I don’t know whether this is true during normal times. 2) Even if you don’t get sea sick, you often travel at night and while the sea was relatively calm, even small waves feel like you’re sleeping on a roller coaster (or at least that’s how I felt – I didn’t sleep much but others said they slept great). Plus the engine is loud and the dingy needs to be lowered before your morning tour and it makes a lot of noises. Bring earplugs or a white noise machine. 3) Bring extra clothes pegs for drying on the line. 4) Bring your own mask and snorkel while renting their fins. Some masks and snorkels are older models and not great for preventing water from entering while dunking. I brought both but my daughter used their fins which were more than adequate. 5) Every night Roberto would let us know the next day’s itinerary and then create a white board of events with the equipment we needed to bring. It would be great if these could be published online just as sample daily itineraries because it’s difficult to gauge exactly what you might be doing every day from the information that is currently available (for example, I didn’t expect as much snorkeling based on what is currently published but I was pleased to find out that we would snorkel at least once every day). 6) While no event was overly strenuous, this is an active tour. I was the oldest and very much enjoyed the fact that I was surrounded by younger passengers wanting to see and do a lot. Some breaks are built into most days when the boat moves but don’t expect to relax too much.

Did the 5-night cruise in the Galapagos on the Fragata, and it was a memorable experience for sure! Galápagos Islands by themselves are simply superb...absolutely breathtaking scenery and wildlife. Loved every minute of it. The sunrises and sunsets are definitely not to be missed! The Fragata crew is outstanding! Ivan, our guide, was knowledgeable about the islands and made each island excursion fun...our children got to learn a lot from him. The kitchen staff and other crew was also top notch! The only place where the Fragata falls short is the yacht itself...it has aged and it shows. Yes the cabins and bathrooms are tiny, but that is to be expected. But the rooms could use an upgrade. I understand that the humidity and salt water don’t help, so it’s somewhat understandable. That being said, it was a stable and smooth sailing, we didn’t feel any motion sickness at all. All in a all a fantastic experience. Go ahead and make your booking if you’re looking to visit Galapagos...you’re in good hands with them. And Fragata is probably a more reasonable option compared to the expensive catamaran options. And please remember to tip generously...so many families have been hard hit with the pandemic and the lack of tourists.

Everything about this 8-day trip exceeded my expectations! Each day gifted us with new, wild, informative, beautiful and utterly captivating land and water experiences. On land, we saw everything imaginable, from sea turtles laying eggs and returning to the sea, to the courtship dance of the Blue Footed Boobie which is imprinted on my heart forever. We snorkeled at least twice daily with hammerhead sharks, reef and Galapagos sharks, sea lions, sea turtles, spotted eagle rays, penguins, and of course, the beautiful reef fish. The Fragata was the perfect vessel for my trip, a truly comfortable home on the sea, equipped with everything we could possibly want or need. No worries about food—there is plenty! Between excursions, we were offered amazing fruit juices. The Fragata also has lovely spaces for relaxing and watching the ocean between excursions and our crew was patient, kind, happy and always attentive. As a solo female traveler, I could not have been better cared for! Don't wait another minute. Just do it!!!

Just returned from our trip on the Fragata. It was a very pleasurable one. Of course the Islands speak for themselves but the crew made it that much nicer. They were very helpful and accommodated my Vegan half of the family very well. It was a full house but did not feel over crowded. I would recommend the Frigate for anyone seeking a midlevel boat. Just one precaution, if you have special needs as far as snorkeling equipment bring your own. They didn't have a pair that fit my daughter's small face well.
