Great hike - great spot to swim. Water is a bit cold but doable
Only a few people come here as the walk is a bit long

Great hike easily accessible from town
Sep 2020
A nice hike that's easily accessible from town. We only had one full day on San Cristobal to explore (wish we had more, there's plenty to do here!) and spent part of the afternoon walking up to Cerro Tijeretas. There's a path that connects this to the interpretation center, Playa Carola, and a few other viewpoints. The pathway is paved and easy to navigate. We wished we had more time to snorkel at one of the bays, but didn't have the gear/time to do so.

Nice hike to the Viewpoint
Sep 2019 • Solo
The hike wasn't long and wasn't difficult as there is proper path going up and hence there is no need for hiking shoes. Great views from the viewing platform. Highly recommended.

Awesome view, nice snorkeling
Mar 2020
It is not hard climb. The head trail starts at the Interpretation Center at the end of the town. It is about 2 KM or less / 20 minutes walks on paved trail. From the wooden platform awesome view of the bay
and great place to watch the birds and especially frigates. Then is about 5 minutes to the beach. Not a big space to lay on or put your clothes, you must use the rock too. But the water is crystal clear with plenty of marine life and sea lions. One was very curios and came to check out us.

Snorkeling

Nice for snorkeling in the low tide. It possible to observe see lions, turtels, fish. Good visibility. Recomended to have the fins - huge distance to other side.

Best snorkeling ever
Feb 2020
Best snorkeling we've ever done! We're from Florida, so we know something about snorkeling. We swam with sea turtles, sea lions (practically brushing up against us), rays, schools of hundreds of tropical fish. Saw sea cucumbers, sand dollars, puffer fish, starfish, and so much more. The water was warm (February), and so clear, you could see everything on the bottom about 30 feet below. We were there for hours and could have stayed for more. None of the animals are afraid of people -- we didn't just glimpse the turtles, sea lions, and fish, we swam and drifted with them for long periods of time, watching them feed and play. And the sea lions actually interact with you. They are curious, and like to check you out. Such an incredible experience. For me, it literally made the entire trip to Galapagos worth doing. There are two beautiful lookouts accessible from a lovely stone-paved path -- but this review is about the snorkeling in the cove below the lookouts. It's worth taking the plunge :)

Awesome view of the island
Jul 2019
To get to the peak of Cerro Tijeretas you have to hike about 2 kms from the park station, but the view is awesome, definitely worth the effort. From there you can continue to playa Baquerizo or go to the Cerro Tijeretas beach where you can swim. Please be aware of the sea lions because they can be dangerous if they feel threatened, so stay away from the cubs and females if there is an alpha lion around. Try not to swim close to them.

Great place to swim and snorkel with seal lions, turtles, and schools of salema.
Oct 2019
Approximately 15 mins walk from town Tijeretas is a beautiful area to swim and snorkel. To really enjoy you will benefit from a 5mm wetsuit - this will allow you to stay in the water for more than 20mins before getting really cold! We snorkelled daily for about 1.5 hours playing with juvenile sea lions, watching peaceful sea turtles in large groups, and videotaping boobies as they dive into the water. Water shoes are helpful to negotiate the rocks on entry, but are not necessary.

Nice place
Sep 2019 • Couples
It’s a nice free activity to do in San Cristobal. The walk is nice and not too difficult. We accessed it through the interpretation centre path. Look-out points offer lovely views and a cool Charles Darwin statue. The bay itself is really nice . We didn’t snorkel in it because some sea lions were blocking the way, but if we had time to come back we would have! Water looked clear , and we saw many sea turtles popping their heads out , as well as a pelican. The sea lions were adorable too. Keep going on the path and you will find a nice beach to relax at with more sea turtles and sea lions.

Fabulous free place to snorkel
Sep 2019
Take the road out of town towards Frigate Hill and you will come upon a rather large bay. Calm water, great visibility, loads of sea turtles, the largest school of sardines I have ever seen, pelicans diving for their supper, and lots of other fish. Mostly locals there. Pretty easy entrance into the water with a few steps. Wear a wetsuit if traveling this time of year. Water was chilly
