This was one of the excursions from our cruise around the islands, about a 40 minute drive by bus across the highlands. Our bus was not air conditioned but since he drive with doors open it was fine! The tortoise place is where they breed the island tortoises and then introduce them into the wild when they are big enough... More

I wanted to like this place so much more than we did. Yes, the tortoises are free to roam about but they mainly congregate around their watering and feeding holes which are protected. Maybe they roam about but not on the day I was there. The baby tortoises were adorable. Wish there was a little more interaction with them.

When staying in San Cristobal, this is the only possibility to see land turtles. However, if you have the chance to visit Rancho El Manzanillo in Santa Cruz, this is much better.

Lots of tortoises of varying ages - the "nursery" where the 0-5 year olds are kept was interesting (they grow very slowly.) No fear at all, they come right up to the trail. Wonderful to see the conservation of these once-hunted creatures. A fun day trip.

We were very lucky - on a quiet saturday morning we had a tour from a very knowledgeable English-speaking ranger. The adult tortoises were gearing up (slowly) for the breeding season, so calling and fighting viciously! High;y recommended.

As part of our highlands your we stopped at this tortoise reserve. There was no fee to go in and I was surprised not to see a donation box (I totally would have left a donation). A small dirt path takes through the reserve to see the tortoises that seem to congregate around the make shift water holes. There's also... More

We had the chance to visit this tortoise breeding center and saw lots of tortoises at various stages of life. I found it very interesting and I really admire the work they are doing. Once the tortoise reaches a certain age, they are released in to the natural environment. They also rescue injured tortoises - there was one who was... More

We went there as a land tour from a small cruise ship on a western Galapagos itinerary. The Galalpaguera is about a half hour bus ride from the Puerto Baquerizo Moreno harbor. We saw numerous tortoises around the park. Then they have the breeding center where you find the baby tortoises. The very new ones are about two inches in... More

If you want to tortoises of all sizes, then it's a must visit. You get to see them up close and snap plenty of pictures. You can't really see the babies in the wild, so I absolutely loved seeing them here.
