If you want great souvenir shopping then base yourself in Santa Cruz.
If you want to spot boobies and penguins then do the boat trips out of Isabela.
If you have the money then do the trip to Kicker Rock with private beach out of San Cristobal.
If you are on a tight budget and are happy to mainly see finches and sea lions then San Cristobal is also for you.
It's main town is pretty small with a main street at the front and a few side streets with not much going on. The restaurants and shops are adequate just there is not much choice compared to other islands. There was a band playing when I was there but it didn't disturb me as my hotel was a little further down. What affected my sleep was all the sea lions on the beach (and roads). They can get very noisy when honking to one another late at night or early morning!

For those of you who arrive at the San Cristóbal airport, this will be your first look at the Galapagos islands. On the pier you will see sea lions, iguanas, sea turtles, crabs, pelicans, finches, and other animals. You can also find a lot of restaurants, stores, and gift shops close by.

Learn to distinguish the voices of the males, the females and the babies. They adults rule. Do not try to pass the stretched out brute who owns the wooden walkway connecting the malecon with the ferry pier. Tolerate the smell, a necessary byproduct of a rookery of nearly 1000 sea lions. If you enjoy their antics, be sure to get to a beach to snorkel with the juveniles. Their interactions and antics should Not to be missed.

Be aware that it is legal to have a concert until 2am right where all the hotels are located in Puerto Baquerizo. Tourists who come all the way to the Galápagos Islands are not here to party. We can do that in Miami for 1/4 of the price. We pay ALOT of money to go on tours that leave at 6 or 7am. These tours start at USD120 p/p and can go up to USD250p/p. I am sure i am not alone in my irritation that we absolutely could not sleep with the loud music. Every night that we were here, the political parties were broadcasting loud speeches and going around and around the main tourist strip honking their horns. It was sad to see the restaurants empty because tourists don’t want to eat where you can’t have a conversation due to political rallies. This town depends on tourism and post-covid everyone was saying that tourism is way down. Furthermore, for a town that promotes the environment, the concert goers left all their garbage all over the ground. Really shameful. FYI, municipal elections are in March. If you come, think twice about staying in the port area and definitely bring ear plugs. I suggest that the businesses in this area get together and lobby for laws which ban concerts that go past 10pm and also the incessant motorcades with the honking in tourist areas.

It's right at the heart of town, on the primenade, right next to the main pier. Pretty viewpoint on the harbour, and nicely lit at night.

This walk along the town's seafront is interesting. Many features and cafes and loads of sealions (some of which you may need to take action to avoid)

We had a couple of hours in town before heading for the airport. The marina has some reasonable seaside cafes where the seats are shared with sleeping sea lions. A pleasant ending to our Galapagos trip.

Beautiful area of the town of SAN Cristobal . Lots of restaurants and shops along the seafront and many photo opportunities of sea lions on the beach.

In comparison to the slight Malecon of Isla Isabela this is phenomenal. It stretches from the beach of the sea lions along the shoreline toward the central docks and beyond. There are numerous images, signs, etc that provide information including the island maps in a watery plaza.

The Malecon seemed with restaurants and bars. It's not very lively but a pleasant walk during day and night time.
