Just returned from a Galapagos Island trip aboard the Tip Top V the latest boat in the Tip Top Fleet. Had a superb time on a Road Scholar tour with the Tip Top Crew who were first rate. Captain Washington and Cook Ronnie were great leaders and we enjoyed every minute. We went to 7 or 8 Islands in a week and each one was different requiring either a wet or a dry landing. Personal favorites were Genovesa with amazing close encounters with multitudes of birds, Espanola with Albatross nesting and of course Santa Cruz to see the Giant Tortoise. Our naturalist on board was Pato Maldonato who was outstanding. The boat itself was very comfortable and ideal for island hopping

I travelled around the Galapagos with Tip Top 5 and everything was amazing. Each day was different, with so many opportunities for seeing wildlife on land and in the ocean. The crew and guide were amazing; so helpful and knowledgeable. My cabin was great, with a balcony and food was amazing. I didn’t want to come home!

We just returned from a 14 day Galapagos tour that we booked through Galapagos Travel. The agency and our point person, Debbie, could not have been more helpful. Every question that I posed, and I asked a lot of them, was answered thoughtfully and fully . From our pick up at the airport to the Covid tests we had to take prior to leaving Ecuador , everything ran smoothly and efficiently .. The Alameda Mercure was a fine hotel with a stellar spa that is free to the guests. Our ship was the TipTop IV and there were 16 people abord ...there were 6 in our group and no children were with us. I say this because this is really not a trip for children under the age of 12...or a trip for anyone with limited ability to get around. If you are in relatively good shape , enjoy a rigorous day full of activities, then this is the trip for you. Be aware that the day starts early, this helped with the heat and we almost always had each island all to ourselves. We had a great guide, Martin Loyola, who was tireless and a font of information. The ship was comfortable and we never felt crowded...there was always a place to hang out and read or just take a snooze. The food was adequate and fresh we enjoyed the meals that featured more of the food of Ecuador...our second week chef, Raul, was very creative and was able to put out some good meals. We mostly drank the beer that was on offer ( the beverage menu on the ship a few local beers were mentioned) however, only one type was available. Be sure to bring cash for the beer/wine. We brought some of our own liquor to supplement ...I appreciated this because the prices of the beer /wine and liquor are quite expensive. Some soft drinks and sparkling water ran out days before the trip ended...I am not sure what the issue was but it was a small disappointment as I am a big fan of sparkling water. We brought our own wetsuits and I would highly recommend this. Wetsuit rentals are more expensive then purchasing one online. I wore a full suit and was very comfortable...the others in our group wore shorties and were comfortable enough. The flippers on the ship work well , I would recommend also bringing your own snorkel and mask. The crew was kind and helpful, cabins were fine , each had its own air conditioner which was great as it can get warm .. I would say that we were overwhelmed at the incredible diversity of animal life on the islands....we were in the water once or twice a day and swam with penguins, rays, sharks, iguanas, seals, sea lions, turtles , and tropical fish.. Our walks included flora and fauna , a myriad of birds ...we also spent time on some lovely beaches All in all it was an amazing adventure , one that we all will remember ..

About month or two from going to the trip we were told that the catamaran we booked on was allocated by the local government to do the tours for the locals. It sounded strange, but we agreed to change to another boat - not catamaran. Our cabin had a tiny window vs what we booked at the catamaran. During the second week there was available room or two in the upper deck, with normal window. When we asked they told us the charge is almost $400 p/p per week. In other words they downgraded us without returning the difference in price and didn’t want to upgrade us back! Even when they had to move us to a different cabin due to horrible bathroom smell in ours they moved us to a room on a low deck. This left a bad taste in our mouths and not only figuratively. The trip itself was great and the crew is spectacular, but dishonest management practices are not something I would recommend to deal with. It’s really a shame that experiencing such a spectacular area of the world gets spoiled by shady people.

We had high expectations for our 5 day cruise in the Galapagos with Tip Top Cruises, and Tip Top met and exceeded those expectations! The boat was first class, clean, comfortable and even luxurious! The food was amazing, Tip Top accommodating both vegan and meat eaters, with a creative menu and first class chef. Our guide/naturalist was very knowlegeable, took us on amazing shore excursions and explained in detail the lives of the sea life and mammals we saw in the Galapagos. Best of all, our crew was professional and personable, led by an amazing cruise director. I highly recommend Tip Top Cruises for the Galapagos!
