The museum is very informative. Provides the struggles, progress, and so on of the Timor Leste people during the Indonesian occupation. Very sad. They had an exhibit showing where the freedom fighters hide from the Indonesian military. There's also a bookstore on site.

Dili doesn't have much to offer, but this museum is absolutely essential to visit. It gives you a more in depth view of what happened in the past and what should never happen again.

This is obviously a very good museum (lot's to read) on the struggle against the terrible Indonesian occupation and the initial deafening absence of reaction of the "international community". Don't miss the remake of the hiding place of a resistance fighter. What's terribly missing is a spotlight on the role of the women in the resistance. East Timor remains a... More

Essential to make a visit here if you are interested in the struggle for independence. A great memorial to a national hero.

Before visiting, I had only a minimal bit of knowledge about the history of East Timor: I knew broadly of their attempts to gain independence from Indonesia, and of Pope John Paul II's visit there and the aftermath that spurred international action. The museum does an excellent job of gong through the history without being overwhelming. All information in the... More

Being Indonesian we learned about history up until Senior High School. Seeing this place personally and see what's the "behind story" of Timor Timor (now Timor-Leste) independence was a great experience. They have a very detailed information too. Better than any history books I had read before. Great for youngsters who's into history.

The Resistance Museum offers a history of Timor's struggle for independence with displays with interpretation in three languages - Tetum, Portuguese and English. Some graphic photos and videos (not suitable for the two children with us) and a sense of the great sacrifices that so many made for their freedom. But would have been good to see more on the... I was looking forward to the visit but was disappointed as it was empty with no visitors. The security guards were the only people around. There were no staff to respond to queries. The museum shop was bland with limited books but it does have potential with additional investment.
