Le Plateau is a must-see place in Abidjan, perfect for a pleasant walk. During the day, you can feel the effervescence of a dynamic district mixing modernity and historical charm. However, it is often jammed during peak hours, so it is best to plan its trips.

In the evening, the Plateau transforms into a quiet and peaceful space, offering an ideal atmosphere for a quiet walk. It is a place where you can enjoy both the energy of the city and an unexpected serenity.

A beautiful mix not to be missed during your visit to Abidjan!

In the French language it refers to the city. There is some very beautiful modern building structures. Some look like they will fall any time. There are also some very dilapidated blocks in the city. The regional development bank, Africa Development Bank is housed here, not far from the Saint Paul Cathedral. It's trees in some sections. The library is also not very far from these 2 places.

Downtown Abidjan is nothing to write home about. It is congested, hot, and not a tourists' favorite spot. There is a Museum and there are also shops (a big bookstore, Librairie de France and big store across the street where Hotel du Parc used to be). Most airlines have their representatives at the Plateau. The Plateau is a work day place, deserted at night and weekends. It is best to avoid the Plateau at night.

When reading through the previous 17 reviews, I wondered which Plateau and where, some of the reviewers had visited. Plateau is functionally very efficient as the economic capital, with its major hotels and financial institutions, but once 18h00 has arrived, it is virtually dead, apart from a few expensive restaurants, and the hotels. Plateau is to Abidjan as "The City" is to London; it is not a "Soho" or a "West End". Nightlife is better found in Zone 4 and Cocody-Deux Plateaux. And you won't find a cinema in Plateau!

Its a normal business district, a few nice restaurants, gets really hot. All its the usual business centre similar to most capital cities across africa.

Abidjan is a city with good infrastructure but not well maintained. Also need to improve cleaning a lot, but looks like safety and with good options to eat.

I was on a cruise and decided to go on my own to explore Abidjan and the Plateau area, but was very disappointed. I walked for over 2.5 hours but was able to find very little that was of any interest. The Cathedral is certainly worth a visit, but beyond this not much to see or do. Many office buildings, some they describe as "skyscrapers" which here is about 30 floors, and certainly different for this part of Africa but not necessarily a tourist attraction. Unfortunately, toward the end of my walking, I saw some other passengers from the ship about a block away and then saw four men grab one of the women and steal camera/computer bag and then disappear in an instant. Certainly can happen in any major city, but on top of the lack of interesting sites, this made the visit to the Plateau very disappointing.

Abidjan is not Paris, London or NYC so of course it would not resemble those metropolis. It's skyline however is exceptional compared to many African capitals. There is plenty of construction and restructuring going on of old buildings damaged during the brief crisis and new ones that will host new investors. They also go all out at Christmas time with lights and decorations which causes rubbernecking along the main arteries. Restaurants and their patrons in plateau tend to be more refined than the loud locales in zone 4. There is also a nice gallery by the novel that carries modern African attire from contemporary Ivorian designers. It is worth a visit.

I am living in Ivory Coast since December 2010 and since my arrival, I was impressed by Plateau, particularly during night time.
Considering the fact that the Country is still suffering for the post electoral crises, many efforts have been taken to renovate Abidjan.
Plateau is reachable by the airport through two bridges that cross the lagoon and the area is still enriched with lights that were put during Christmas period.
It is the commercial and political area of Abidjan and many high level restaurants and hotels are present.
