We used this fantastic transportation system of two trains lines, four Metro cable car overhead lines and two Metro bus lines, to get around the City. Finished in 1995, the addition of the metro cable cars was pure genius, for most of the poor live up on the valley’s hillsides, but now they have easy access to town. In fact, this is the first-time cable cars have been used for mass transit. Cannot believe how clean and graffiti free they all are, wish we had something like this in LA. We never felt unsafe and the people were very warm and friendly.
TIP: Take the train to the Metro cable and ride it to the national Park at the end.

This is the cleanest metro I've ever riden, cheap, easy and clean puts it #1 on my list. 25 years old and it looks like it opened yesterday. Better than NYC or London
Only drawback is that is a small metro with few connections through out the city.

Medellin's metro was absolutely clean and comfortable. Also It was easy to get in different directions in the city the maps were clear and the signs too.Indeed,I remembered Madrid's Metro with the plus of the city's viewing

The Medellin Metro does exactly what you want from a metro. It gets you from point A to point b safely, affordably and reliably. As part of our city tour, our tour guide took us from communa 13 to the city centre using the metro and it was an easy process to get there. My one complaint would be the fact that the metro places don't have a lot of handicapped accessible options. So my mom has knee problems and struggled to make her way up and down the stairs. Obviously, my mom is not the only one who suffers from knee issues and they should really address this.

Great metro system to help you get around the city. It’s clean, regular, and efficient. Even better is that it’s user of cable cars makes taking it an experience in its own right.
My only note is that recharging your card can be a bit of a mare at busy times, so best top up a lot on one go.

I'm not sure why so many people are enamored with this metro system. It's your standard above ground public rail system. It's clean, cheap, and at times crowded and it beats traffic 99 times out of 100.

This is the only metro rail system in the country. Medellin has put a lot of capital in developing it's infrastructure.
The Metro has very high usage, and yet it is very clean and orderly. I was told that it is so clean, because the Paisas are so proud of it.
The cars are spacious, the ticket booths are efficient and the staff are friendly and helpful, despite the hectic atmosphere, and tourists with limited Spanish.
We were very impressed!

The people of Medellin are proud of their metro as it is the first in the country. Clean, efficient and easy to use. Whilst the metro is safe, pickpockets do operate so don't carry valuables or flash mobile phones. To be honest, this is common now in most countries. Medellin has a lot of traffic so this is a good option to move around more quickly.

What a great way to get around the city. We used it several times, very easy as one route east west, one route north south. Stations are very clean....cars can be very crowded at times so might have to stand.

This is the cleanest Metro I have ever been in. There has been a "metro culture" integrated into the education system for several years, and los Medellinos take great pride in keeping it clean and safe. Highly recommend this mode of travel in this fine city, which we are just starting to explore.

¡Hola! Espero que aún te sirva la respuesta. Yo estuve en julio 2019 en Medellín. Utilizamos el metro ( el ticket se compra en cada estación) y sirve mucho, porque te acerca a muchos lugares. Es limpio y ordenado. Además, se puede ver la ciudad desde él en su recorrido. El otro medio de transporte que usamos fue el taxi, tanto los que solicitaba desde el hotel como uno de confianza que nos recomendó un familiar que vive allá ( El taxista es Mauricio Medel , muy honesto y amable +573217963141, no usa whatsapp) Qué disfrutes tu viaje!

¡Hola! Viajo a Medellín en unos días y quería saber si hay alguna tarjeta de varios viajes, o para utilizar varios días sin tener que comprar un billete cada vez que se utiliza el transporte público.

Hola, que chevere que viajas, espero todo salga muy bien. Tienes dos opciones con respecto a la tarjeta: 1- Adquirir una tarjeta de viajes eventuales en la que puedes recargar máximo 6 viajes, pero te cobra cada integración por aparte; es decir si bajas del metro a un bus del sistema, cada uno lo cobra a $2.400 (pesos colombinos). 2- Adquieres una tarjeta cívica personalizada (te recomiendo que la solicites por la página web 2 días antes de llegar a medellín) la reclamas en el punto que selecciones en la página con una copia de tu pasaporte y puedes usarla de acuerdo a lo que recargues desde un viaje, ahí cada viaje te cuesta $2.125 , puedes recargar los que desees. Las tarifas de integración las ves en la siguiente página del metro de medellín (no me deja adjuntar el link la política de trip advisor :( ) Pero pon en la búsqueda: tarifas metro medellín y cuando salga una url que finalice en gov co, esa es la correcta.

El metro es un medio de transporte publico que cubre buena parte del área metropolitana de la ciudad y el parque Arvi. Está conectado con 2 metrocables, 1 tranvía y varias lineas de buses. Puedes ir de la estación más al sur a la más al norte y volver o viceversa por el mismo precio, o incluso subir a los metrocables, siempre y cuando no salgas del sistema. El metrocable para el parque Arví sí tiene un valor adicional, pero allá es recomendable que te bajes para conocerlo y disfrutar de un día de campo.
Aunque no es un paseo como tal, puedes usar el metro para conocer buena parte de la ciudad y municipios aledaños, todo depende de donde estés ubicado y a dónde quieras ir.

There is elevator access to parts of the metro but to be honest, I have only seem that a certain stations. Others may just be not as visible. Once you are on the platform, getting luggage onto the Metro would not be a problem. But be aware, that if you cannot access and elevator it may mean having to struggle up and down several sets of stairs. I would also suggest to try and avoid "peak" hours as it does get pretty busy. Bienvenida a Medellín, si está en El Centro de la ciudad a la estación san Antonio se debe dirigir y coge el metro que va a la estación estadio.
En esta ciudad la gente es muy amena y amable al que le preguntes te va a indicar para donde debe coger y donde se debe bajar.

hola....tomas la linea de metro y llegas al metrocable y tomas ese metrocable hasta la estación biblioteca españa. Pregunta cual línea de metro y en que estación te bajas Solo se paga un pasaje de ida y uno de venida.

Google maps makes it look like I could walk to the metro from the airport. Is it actually walkable? Looks like it's 1/2 mile or less. I'll have just a single backpack (weekend trip), so I'm not worried about dragging luggage.

Depends on which airport. Cordoba is in Rio Negro to the east and it's 45 minutes by car. Herrera on the other hand is in town but just handles small passenger flights. If Cordoba, take a taxi or the small bus (9,000). If Herrera, take a taxi because walking from the airport attracts attention. FYI....blend in as much as possible with the locals (no shorts, collared short sleeve shirt not tucked in, dark sneakers and socks) and ALWAYS be aware of people, motorcyclists and cars stalking you. If you are careful, Medellin is a great town to visit.

is there a way to get a metro card or the civi card at the airport. we are arriving international and would like to get the card and some credit before getting into town. If there are monthly passes that is what we would like as we will be staying a while.

The answers have given you the info you asked. One other thing is where your hotel is located. Many times it's easier to take a taxi to your destination than take a taxi to a metro station.
You'll love Medellin. It's an amazing city with warm, friendly people and there's so much to see and do.
