I came to Colombia to learn how to paraglide, and signed up for Ruben's training program to get my P2 "adventure pilot" certification with APPI.
The course began with about a week at the training hill learning to set up the equipment, ground handle (kite) the wing, how to take off using both forward and reverse launch techniques, and of course how to land. These flights are short, and close to the ground - no more than 10 seconds and no higher than 15-20 feet. I was also given books and videos with which to study in the evenings. We also spent one day at the flying site in San Felix, where i was able to practice ground handling in the morning, and then take a tandem flight in the afternoon during which more advanced maneuvers such as collapses, stalls and wing overs were demonstrated, and I was allowed to take the controls for some basic maneuvers and to learn how to climb in thermals.
Once Ruben knew I was ready, he took me out for 4 days of high altitude flights that were 10-15 minutes long. During these flights we continued to work on my takeoff and landing skills, introduced a variety of maneuvers such as 360 degree turns, figure eights, and big ears, and I learned how to plan my approach to the landing zone. By the end of the course, I was able to take off, fly to the landing zone, and make my approach and landing without assistance, and earned my P2 certification.
Ruben is a fantastic instructor who truly enjoys introducing students to this incredible sport. He speaks English fluently and was able to answer all of my questions not only about paragliding, but also about Colombia and Colombian culture. I always felt like my safety was the #1 priority, and Ruben and his staff were always ready to do whatever it took to make sure I was completely ready for the next step in the training. Throughout the course I used the school's equipment, all of which was in fine condition. The only things I needed to bring were food, water, sun protection, and footwear with ankle support.
Overall, I couldn't ask for a better experience. Colombia is a great place to learn how to paraglide, and Ruben and Paraglidng Medellin spared no effort in giving me high quality instruction in a fun and friendly environment. If you show up motivated and ready to work hard, you will be rewarded with an amazing experience that you will never forget, and a solid foundation on which to build as you continue on your paragliding journey.

This was a fantastic flight, and the man who owns the operation personally came and picked us up and was so encouraging and comforting, so friendly. The flight guide was experienced and very friendly and understanding; he did not rush, he was happy to do the flight and we even waited a bit so that we could have the perfect weather to make for a perfect flight, whereas other companies were going anyways. Highly recommend!

Our family took advantage of the Door to door package. We went early in the day so there were no big crowds yet on a day with perfect weather. It was truly a once in a lifetime experience flying with the birds...literally. It exceeded our expectations. I highly recommend this to anyone.

I have wanted to get my P2 license for 2yrs. I chose Medellin because I heard of Ruben from a longtime paraglider in Seattle. Ruben is the godfather of paragliding in Colombia starting when paragliding barely existed in Colombia and had just began as a new sport.
He takes safety extremely seriously. I would trust him and his partner "H" with my life! This is something to take into consideration when looking for an instructor/tandem as other instructors in the area may be younger, less experienced and less likely to have your best interest at heart. You get what you pay for here and honestly it is worth so much more.
Ruben and "H" are like Dos XX men with plenty of amazing stories and life experiences. They are wonderful passionate human beings and extremely trustworthy and honorable. They would do anything to ensure the safety and enjoyment of their clients.
I would joke that Ruben was like the Mr. Miyagi of paragliding, it's so accurate!
Another reason why Medellin is a wonderful place to learn is the beautiful rolling green mountains in the surrounding area. Ruben and "H" will take you to spectacular landscapes to learn or you would do a tandem over gorgeous Medellin.
you should 1000% fly with Ruben! You will not be disappointed.

I am a paragliding pilot myself and did a great tandem flight with Aeroclub Medellin as I had no equipment with me and were not familiar with the site.
All the team worked very professional and in a safe way. The pilots I met have an incredible amount of experience and air time at this site as they can do top landing nearly all the time. The gliders were in perfect shape what I saw, only harness showed heavy wear (compared to German standard).

Besides the walking tours of Medellin and surrounding areas, I would highly recommend this activity.
Skill level required is low!
Just sit back and allow the expert flyers take you around the mountain.

Our family of five, ranging in age from 7 to 70, had a wonderful paragliding experience with Paragliding Medellin. Our tandem guides, German and John, were kind, informative and helpful and the experience was exciting and fun as we soared over the hills and cityscape of Medellin. We were late arriving for the flight because of traffic and the company was very accommodating with respect to our change of timing. They were equally accommodating when our seven-year-old proved too light to fly with a normal parachute and they had to borrow a smaller chute from another company on the other side of the mountain. The company owner, Ruben, was enthusiastic and helpful. We had an amazing experience and would highly recommend the company!

Increíble experience! Our driver Giovanny was the absolute best! On time to pick us up, very friendly and felt very safe with him!
The staff at the paragliding were courteous, professional and took their time to explain the ride!! Must do if you are in Colombia!!!

Could not be more thrilled with my experience with Paragliding Medellin. A friend and I both took our P1 / P2 paragliding certifications in English with Ruben and it was an incredible experience. Ruben is a very knowledgeable and caring instructor who is excited to share his passion for paragliding with his students. We were able to travel all around Colombia to different beautiful locations we wouldn't have otherwise seen. Definitely going to come back and do our P3 with him next year!

What an amazing experience that you should not miss!!The morning was overcast and our pilots waited for the perfect weather instead of pushing us to go earlier like some of the other companies. This resulted in an amazing long flight over Medellin which we both absolutely loved! The direct transport to and from our hotel was excellent as well.
