    For art lovers
It is a museum with a wide range of works, both sculptures, paintings and sketches by very renowned artists. On the third floor you can find works by Fernando Botero that complement the sculptures in Botero Park that are just outside the museum. It also has temporary exhibitions. and places to rest, eat, have a drink or buy souvenirs.

    Repeating visit
I had already come 4 years ago and the experience has always been wonderful. A place full of our history told through art. Taking photos there will always be a great plan. Ask to have a coffee inside the Museum and read. On the way out I was able to visit the Museum Store! 😊

    Loved it!
Outstanding museum, manageable size in one visit. Loved the Boteros and collection of Colombian art. Nice cafe and shop onsite. Architecturally very interesting too as former municipal building.

    A beautiful, Top-rated museum I've ever met.
It is definitely a beautiful museum, starting with the architecture and views of the main square of the city as well as the splendid curation. The stories told by the museum, from the entire floor dedicated to Botero as well as the extensive display of Colombian and international art make this a must-see. It is one of the Top-rated museums you have ever been to in the whole world and has nothing to envy to others of its kind in Europe or the United States.

    Great Collection of Botero Art!
Worth the visit! Plan on 90 minutes. Spend most of your time in the Botero wing on the third floor. Lots of good contemporary art (not the crazy stuff). Make sure to check out all the Botero sculptures in the square, but be mindful of safety. Wallets in front and phones firmly gripped.

    Impressive Collection of Art
This museum used to be the city hall but has now been transformed to house the impressive collection of famed Colombian/Italian artist, the great Fernando Botero. He was born in Medellin and has donated 100+ paintings to the museum. The plaza it sits in is also named after him, Plaza Botero, with its 23 chubby, rubenesque statues scattered throughout. You should start at the top floor with Botero’s earliest works and move down to see how his work has developed. There are also international artists here too who provide a vast array of complementary works in this gallery. Audio guide is available, so too a small café whose coffee you can enjoy in the courtyard.

Museum with an amazing collection of Botero's paintings
This is my favorite museum in Medellin. I love the permanent exhibition of over 100 of Botero's paintings. As many know, Botero is famous for his depiction of "fat people" and the Parque Botero (located in front of the museum) is known for its collection of statues created by Botero. Before visiting this Museum, I wasn't aware that Botero was also a painter, and seeing his paintings gave me a deeper understanding and appreciation of Botero's signature style. I am deducting one star from this review because visitors to the museum are not allowed to take photos of Botero's paintings (or anything displayed on the 3rd floor). There were two paintings of Botero that I especially liked, and I was hoping to find a magnet or a postcard featuring at least one of the two paintings. Unfortunately, the museum store is very limited, and the items on offer only features a small number of Botero's paintings, none of which were the ones that interested me. I would encourage the museum to charge a fee to let visitors photograph Botero's paintings, or else offer a more extensive selection of magnets/postcards/posters, etc. of his work. This would be a great way to expand Botero's fame and encourage others to visit the museum.

We preferred the Botero Museum in Bogota
The artist, Fernando Botero, donated most of his artwork to his hometown of Medellin and Bogota. We had first visited the Botero Museum in Bogota before our visit to the Medellin museum so we were able to compare both of them. This Medellin museum has great artwork from Botero (including two noteworthy paintings about the death of Pablo Escobar), but I thought the non-Botero artwork was not as good as we had seen in Bogota. Sadly, no pictures are allowed within the Botero exhibit, but pictures are allowed elsewhere in the museum.

The brilliance of Fernando Botero - plus a pretty good cafe
We loved this museum; in fact we thought the whole precinct surrounding Botero Plaza is pretty special. There are 23 massive bronze sculptures by Fernando Botero in the plaza and then a very large number of his paintings including many extraordinary, arresting portraits in the gallery - with all the works donated by the artist himself. He also donated a lot of the other artworks on display to the museum. Photography is not allowed of any of the paintings by Botero but is OK in the sections of the museum. There is an entrance fee of 40,000 CLP and I thought it was money well spent. I would also recommend the restaurant downstairs in the museum building, El Social Maestro. It was quite busy when we visited (lunchtime) so service was a bit slow, but the meals came in generous servings, were very reasonably priced and were delicious

Spectacular. The exhibition of Botero's works on the third floor is beautiful and there is one of his most heartfelt works: Pedrito (photos or videos are not allowed). On the second floor at the back is a mural by Botero that was moved there. On the 2nd, 1st and basement floors there is an exhibition of other artists that are also worth knowing and visiting. There is a level of only Antioquian artists. Also in front of the museum, there are Botero's sculptures to admire and take photos. The museum store has a variety of items at different prices, several of which have Botero's works printed on them. I recommend 2 hours minimum for a quick visit to all the floors. Ideally, you can be there for more than 2 hours to calmly contemplate the art and have time to visit the store.

Truly a very nice and interesting visit.
Mainly being able to see so many well-known and famous works by the great Botero.
Famous pibrutas that I have seen so much in books, being able to contemplate them from just 1 meter.
Then a huge collection of bronze sculptures in the front plaza of the museum, something incredible.
If you come to Medellín you cannot pass by

Outstanding museum with a large collection of Botero who was born and raised in Medellin. You can't take photographs of Botero's work in the Botero galleries. Quite an extensive body of work, mainly painting. There are a huge amount of his sculptures in the plaza in front of the Museum.

No benches or chairs! Might sound petty but this is a huge exhibition space with almost zero seating in any of the exhibition rooms. After an hour of walking and looking at art my legs were aching so in desperation I sat on the floor against a wall of windows to take a break only to be told by a museum concierge that sitting was not permitted! Since entrance is $10 dollars per person, this is really not acceptable. Considering the majority of customers are likely older people (I am a fairly fit 58 year old) to have no where to pause to look at the art and contemplate it seems insane. Compare this to the Tate, MOMA or other similar spaces where benches are abundant. Felt like a conveyer belt where we were not meant to stop! Do not visit this museum if you have been walking around Medellin first, as I had, or you will be exhausted and frustrated.

Go directly to the third floor where you will find numerous works donated by Botero and his family to his city. We coincided with groups of students and benefited from the explanations of their excellent teachers. An exceptional Botero's exhibit.
You can avoid the other two floors: full of "woke" culture and historical and cultural interpretations of the most radical left, more ideology than art. Giving 3 "Avarage" is a lot for those rooms but with Botero's exhibit only, I would give a 5.

A very good collection of the works of Botero is the main attraction.

However the contemporary art is interesting too. As always with contemporary art some works attract you whilst others leave you cold.

The cafe Urbania I would highly recommend for excellent empanadas and quality coffee.

This is the best museum in Medellin for Colombian modernist and some historic art. The impressive full floor of Boteros and rhe Botero sculptures in the adjacent plaza need at least an hour. Don't miss the rest of the collection which needs adequate time to appreciate. Not the nicest part of the city but a "must see" attraction. Great and affordable priced gift store.

The museum is very large and full of Colombian works of art. The third floor is dedicated to Botero and is the only one where it is not possible to take photographs. The main entrance opens onto the square closed by gates. Looking first which way to get there can help you considering the heavy crowds in the nearby streets.

I have to admit to being less than excited at the initial prospect of visiting this museum.
I was really happy to have my mind changed. The quality and the exhibition of these works really surprised me.This is the largest collection of Botero’s paintings.Although I was familiar will many of them seeing his works displayed gave me a whole new appreciation of his incredible talent. I was very grateful for many of the bilingual labels and explanations throughout the museum.
The variety as well as the quality of the art displayed here was inspiring.
It says a lot for the thought that went into these exhibits that I spent as long as possible here.
I would thoroughly recommend this museum experience.

Were joyed irrelevant visit to this city centre museum on Botero Square. Outside are sores of Ferbabdo Botero sculptures dotted around the square abd inside a whole floor of the museum is dedicated to Botero's work, mainly his paintings.
It costs the equivalent of less than €5 to go in but ve warned, the guards are snarls and unfriendly, they really took from our visit. I get that they are there to protect the exhibits but they are so unfriendly and over the top that they definitely took away from our visit.
It's a good museum though, don't let them get to you.
