I had read about the Río Claro El Refugio Nature Reserve and thought it would be a good place to experience some tropical rainforest while also breaking up the bus trip from Medellin to Bogota. It turned out to be all that and more. In order to make a reservation, I had to telephone someone (I think in Bogota) and... More

Rio Claro is an incredible sight to see. It's basically in the middle of the jungle but not terribly far from Medellin and Bogota. Honestly, I agree with the majority of reviewers: this is not a place to go if you're an experienced adrenaline addict. However, as someone who is not a highly-skilled adventurer, this was perfect. We went rafting,... More

I had heard lots of really good things about Rio Claro. The good news?? You can indeed do all sorts of outdoor activities here: hiking, zip-lining, a cave tour, rafting, camping. It's not too expensive. In general, it's reasonably priced. The bad news?? Well, most of these activities are made to be doable by people with a relatively low level... More

No words can described, the beauty and magic about this place, No pictures can capture the vast amount of nature and biodiversity. this place is about 3 hours from Medellin, make sure you tell the driver where you are going. you wont see a huge banner indicating that you arrived, but once you get there you'll see this place is... We just went to El Cañon Rio Claro Reserva Natural. It was a very beautiful place, but there is a very limiting amount of things to do for free. We planned to camp for two night, but ended up exploring every aspect of the cañon you possibly can in one day, so ended up only staying one night. The campsites... More

This hotel has different types of rooms, so be sure to choose which one you prefer and don´t forget your headlamp for the evenings! I suggest you do the caving activity where you jump from pool to pool inside a rock cave and then you scale down a waterfall and cross the river to get back to the hotel. Teenagers... More

I can't stop coming back to this place since the first time I came. This place is amazing and a perfect nature adventure/retreat in every way. The only reason this place gets bad reviews is because some americans get confused when they don't get a five star hotel, or generaly with anything that challenges their level of comfort even a... We stayed at Rio Claro for 2,5 days and we had a great time. We had a room near the river and, as one of the reviewers already wrote, we fel asleep with the sound of the river and woke up with the sound of birds. We went there by public transport, which was quite an experience, but feasible (even... More

We decided to make a day trip from Medellin to Rio Claro. It took us about three hours to get there (we hired a driver). My husband, 4 kids (5-13) and I had the best time. One tip: make sure to make reservations for the tours you want to do. We were fortunate that they had the rafting tour available.... More
