The Jardin Botanico is a mediocre public park. It's free so it might be a great place for locals because it's a pretty place for a picnic but as a tourist it was incredibly dull. The iguanas were cool but it's not in a nice area and it's very small and without really nice displays on flowers or anything else you would expect in a garden. The only cool display was the desert section.

Nice park. I spent about two hours here (and I really like plants so I lingered). Entrance is free to the general gardens with a 4,000 peso charge for the butterfly exhibit - only a one US dollar and definitely worth it. Butterfly tour is via a guided tour in Spanish but I just enjoyed the surroundings while she talked since my Spanish is limited.
Only plants in the butterfly exhibit have identifying signs. Still, it's a nice place to wander around.
I was asked for proof of covid vaccination and identification matching that on my vaccination card.

My second trip to Medellin. First trip I rented a finca in Guarne. This trip I'm staying with my fiance. Medellin is culturally rich, music, art, attractions, shopping and just about anything you could want.

We planned to go for an hour or so but ended up staying for 4-5 hours. The Jardin is beautiful with lots of wildlife including iguana, turtles, birds, fish, etc. The flowers and trees were gorgeous. Just meandering around the many paths and stopping to sit for a while was lovely. We came across the most incredible restaurant inside the Jardin named In Situ. It looked like a gazebo and it was so pleasant to eat lunch while gazing at the park. The food was outstanding- the best lunch we had in Medellin. One thing to be aware of is that the Jardin is closed on Mondays. There is no cost to enter.

Don’t miss the chance to visit the Medellin Botanical Gardens. It’s free and absolutely stunning. While the entire city of Medellin boasts lush, jungle-like greenery, the gardens offer a unique and tranquil escape that’s well worth your time. The richness and biodiversity here are truly astounding. We spent two hours simply walking around and appreciating the beautiful, well-kept nature. Highly recommended!

A relatively quiet place in the middle of the big city. Not much to see in the way of flowers or orchids. Good for about 30 minutes maybe an hour. You might see some turtles in a pond or iguanas. Butterfly enclosure was small and crowded but you get to see butterflies. Not all that impressed as we have seen incredible Botanical Gardens in many other places. I would save your Botanical Garden pass for Singapore or Sri Lanka or many places in the United States and of course British Columbia are far superior. And the Netherlands Etc

The fact that entry is free goes a long way with me. It's a large garden and a lot of it isn't anything special, but it's still a nice place to wander around without sucking up car exhaust. Added bonus--the bathrooms are free!!
Keep an eye out for birds, butterflies, turtles, and iguanas. The desert garden is quite good. Sundays and holidays are quite busy with Colombians coming to picnic.
I was disappointed that the raised platform area was under construction. That will be pretty cool when it's finished. I didn't go into the butterfly dome because they charge to get in and it's not very big.

Nice park, but I would not recommend going there, unless you want to eat at the In Situ restaurant, which is supposed to be good. We wanted to eat there, but it turned out to be closed due to a private happening. The Botanical Garden is somewhat ironic, because in and around Medellin, you can find all the beautiful plants and trees that are in the park. The park itself was pretty busy and the route toward the park goes through less nice neighbourhoods. It is OK, but certainly not one of the things you must do when in Medellin.

Worst Botan I've ever seen. Dead plants in a place where it rains every day, very ironic. Almost nothing to see here. At least there was a spice rack near the expensive restaurant, the only plants that were alive.

It's true: it's a bit tired, as one reviewer mentioned, but still nice for a stroll and a bit of nature within the city. Very peaceful with some interesting plant varieties, iguanas, fish, turtles, birds. We even saw a monkey on one of the trees. Restaurant was good but a bit over-priced, compared to others in the area.

Do you know the official dates of the Flower Festival this year. Which day is the parade of Silliteros? And most important, will there be an orchid show at the botanical garden this year (2022) and if so, what are the dates of that show?
