About
Primed is a not-for-profit organisation focused on language learning and skills development combined with meaningful volunteer experiences and impactful social initiatives. Through our projects we create learning experiences for people in situations of vulnerability so they can connect with economic opportunities. Based in Medellin, Colombia, our experiences and workshops support social projects and volunteering that provide unique and impactful experiences to both participants and the communities involved. Explore interesting parts of Medellin and Colombia, participate in meaningful volunteer experiences and connect with an amazing community of inspiring individuals.

I really enjoyed my spanish course at Primed. My teacher, Melissa, was really patient with me and she gave me the confidence to speak in spanish with her all the time. When I started the course we started with writing down my personal goals what I wanted to learn and to achieve at the end of the course. My goal was to help myself out in spanish during the dailystuff, for example having diner in a restaurant, and I wanted to be able to have basic conversations. Because of Melissa her patience, practical and fun lessons I achieved my goals

I was a volunteer for Primed Community for approximately 3 months and fell so in love with the concept, that I became a student myself. And I have to say, the methodology is great. It is exactly what you need, when you want to learn to speak in Spanish on various topics in various environments. Melisa (my teacher) really became a friend and we had exotic Spanish sessions sich as museum visit at her uni, visit at the Botanical garden, yoga sessions in Spanish and and and. At Primed you learn to trully speak, whether in Spanish or in English. The concept of social work, community development and language learning makes this organisation so special.

I went from a high beginner to a high intermediate level of Spanish in 2 months thanks to my private classes and volunteering with Primed. Beyond the carefully planned Spanish classes, immersive experiences are what make the school so special! Through Primed, I was able to attend champeta dance classes, get a private tour of Santo Domingo, assist with English classes offered to the San Javier community or visit a local food market with a guide. By the end of my stay, I was able to hold a full 1 hour uninterrupted conversation with my taxi driver on my way to the Medellin Airport, and host a one hour online workshop IN SPANISH on gender equality, my area of professional expertise (check me out of Primed's Facebook page). I'm currently back in Canada working at a job where Spanish skills are a strong asset. I couldn't have been happier with my choice.
I also can't recommend Medellin (and Colombia as a whole) enough. The culture, the nightlife, the weather, the infrastructure, the friendliness, all make it an ideal environment to perfect your language learning. I still miss Colombia and Primed dearly. Covid-19 made me leave prematurely, but I will be back!

I was volunteer at Prime for 5 months. 5 amazing months of teaching English in Santo Domingo. Popular education at a really good level. I also had the chance to learn Spanish through the community. Melissa was my teacher, the best ever ! I recommend strongly this amazing experience that teaches you a lot, surrounded by beautiful people. .

For our stay in Medellin we were looking for a spanishcourse and found the primed community just by accident and spontaneously.
We were so lucky to find this place and felt taken seriously at the first moment. The staff is really helpful and took the time to find the best fitting course for us (intense 3 hours a day).
And now: Our teacher Meli was the most enthusiastic and knowledgeable teacher we were able to think of. We just can recommend primed for a spanishcourse fully.

My English went from basic to fluent with Primed Community, I was a volunteer teaching english to the kids in Comuna 13 and I had the opportunity to get involved with the community. What an amazing experience being part of the Primed Community. I have been a Spanish teacher for more than four years. It is a great place to work, have fun, volunteer, meet new people and enjoy the city.
The fluency program really helped me speak English fluently and being part of the Primed Community really helped me grow as a professional as well as a person.

Primed are doing brilliant work in Medellin. I'm currently taking Spanish lessons and thoroughly enjoying it.

We were scheduled to meet our tour guide who was unable to meet up. So Yulieth came at the last minute to lead the group. She is bursting with positivity about sharing the story of rebirth of her community, Comuna 13. She led us up the long hill explaining the approach to graffiti, describing the various artists and artwork, how the new escalators were built, and lastly the heroic story of how the mothers were critical to it’s renewal. On the way, we stopped for home made ice cream, slid down a slide, and saw old photos of the past. I left with her positive energy filling me up. Please don’t miss this tour!

The donations for this tour support Proyecto Prime, an organization that works with kids from Comuna 13 (and other communities) teaching English, arts education and community organization. Yulieth, who grew up and still lives here, shared with us the history and stories, including some personal experiences, from the horrible past through the transformation of what we see today, a future of hope. We traveled up on the new escalators, saw lots of incredible graffiti art, watched a group of kids break dancing, and ended with some delicious homemade ice-cream. An extremely engaging tour.
