The La Sierra tour is excellent. Highly recommended. Our guide, Arturo, spoke excellent english and is extremely knowledgeable. Right from the easy-to-find meeting point he was an enthusasic and fun guy who shared a wealth of interesting information and was able to answer all questions. I had also done the Barrio 13 tour, which was good, but this was much better, more authentic and certainly much less traveled. In many respects it is two tours in one, first the Community, and then the Coffee Farm. A bit of walking is required, but nothing strenuous and none of the people in our group had any difficulty. For anyone on a short timeframe, this tour a great way to learn about the history, economics and progress made transforming the Barrios into accessable, safe and productive neighborhoods, as well as a first hand look at authentic small scale coffee farming and challanges it faces without making a long driving tour out of the city. An out of town coffee farm tour is still very much worth doing if you have the time and want to see great scenery and larger scale coffee production. But for everyone who is comfortable with a bit of walking and climbing steps I would say this tour is a must do. You will get more out of this tour than any other in Medellin.…

Very interesting tour, with respect for the residents of the district. By doing these tours you also support the local children. Part of the cost is used to support this community.

This was a great tour and Milena was a fantastic guide. She’s well-informed, clear and speaks excellent English. Above all, the tour gave us essential context and background information for understanding not only Medellin’s recent history – and the story of La Sierra – but also the history of the Colombian conflict. There was ample opportunity for questions, the tour wasn’t rushed and the organizers limit the group size. We were seven people on our tour. Milena also showed real sensitivity towards the local community, explaining when and where we could – and could not – take photographs. Most people head to Barrio 13 for their “Medellin barrio tour” but – having been to both – we found the tour to La Sierra a more genuine experience.…

Milena has created something really unique and special with this tour. As well as providing a very interesting angle on Medellin’s history, she was also very willing to answer questions on all kinds of topics about the city and Colombia. Definitely recommended for transport / urban design enthusiasts, and the views from the top of the valley are gorgeous. Proceeds go towards local charitable projects that we were able to visit during the tour. Thank you Milena and sorry it took a while to review!…
