La Comuna 13 is a very friendly and family oriented neighborhood. They take pride in the escalators that were installed several years ago. There is a lot of culture and art though aside from the escalators. The biggest motivator for the young adults is Hip...More

Escalators running up and down the side of the hills/mountains gave us an interesting insight to the different neighbourhoods and their transformation. Definitely recommended but use a tour guide to fully understand

What is interesting is what the government has done in a neighborhood that in most if not all other countries in the world would be ignored. The area around the escalators has been well developed and is now a safe place to be. There are...More

nice ambiance in the comuna 13 ! young people dancing and singing in the streets make it a nice place to stay a few hours there. Our tour guide told us to stay in the main streets.

It was an amazing experience to walk through this community and understand where they've come from and what they've been through. I highly recommend going here. I came on a tour bus (Chiva) that stopped at 4 major parts of the city and I was...More

I actually enjoyed it, even though the Uber and taxi driver told me to be careful. It can supposedly be a rough neighborhood at times. I actually got there a few hours before the tour buses started coming in, so I felt like I was...More

Yes,I believe they are open every day. The escaleras are used by the residents to access their homes located in a hilly area. During my visit some sections were closed for repairs so I used the steps, not the escalator.
