A Few Thoughts, Limited Solely to our Day-Long "Spa Visit".
While staying in the heart of the historic center at a small hotel without a pool, we elected to spend a 'spa day" on a very hot Cartagenian day at the Sofitel, which, for $150 pp usd, included access to its large swimming pool, some provided spa services, and access to the overall property. The $150 p.p. charge included a 50 minute massage, a manicure or pedicure, or an increase of the massage to 80 minutes. We have stayed at Sofitels in the past and love "the brand". The 5 story Santa Clara is elegant and spectacular in it's setting and public places. Our poolside lunch was delicious; and service all around was excellent. However, the pool was busy with many children and families (and some nannies) enjoying the pool; plus a few inconsiderate guests with ever-ringing cell phones; and one memorable, loud and profane argument many heard from a guest "conducting business" via phone....all in stark contrast to the peace of our boutique hotel. The staff at the pool was very attentive, greeting guests as they arrived and assisted in finding seating or available chaises......nice! The spa was lovely and provided a needed and peaceful respite from the pool area busyness and the glaring sun. Staff were well informed, considerate, and asked many questions about the preferences for the massages, which were relaxing and professional. The gentleman's pedicure was labor-intensive and the result was remarkable. The lady's manicure was mediocre at best. Although the technician was technically quite careful......NO heat or drying mechanism was available or used to set the applied nail products, the nail polish was NOT "quick drying" as the technician claimed when asked, and though the technician informed me that the nails would be dried if I sat for 10 minutes after the manicure was completed (which I did) ........... by the time we returned to the changing room and packed our day bag, the cheap nail polish and absence of appropriate drying of the nails resulted in nails that were easily gouged and scarred.....and this continued through the rest of the evening. This was a wasted service in my opinion, not up to the usual standard of the Sofitel brand, and a disappointment to an otherwise pleasant day.

Day spa visit to wrap up our honeymoon. Great visit!
Aug 2017 • Couples
After a month of travelling we spent our final afternoon at this lovely spa. We stayed at a different hostel but felt luxurious for the day of pampering. Started with the steam room and a lovely view, we each had 50 minute massages and the best shower we've had all month! Great service and a relaxing vibe. Cost was very reasonable for the whole experience at around 200k each. Beautiful grounds and a great way to close off our trip

Got a pedicure there, uncomfortable chair, very average service, and incredibly expensive. Would not go again.

Terrible Spa
Probably my worst experience ever ! The masseuse was in a very bad mood and not even polite just the minimum . I asked for a relaxing light and soft massage and it was l a deep , strong and agressive tissue massage, I didn't say a word not to upset her more , hopping she will calm done...never happened . The ambiance was terrible and you were able to feel all the negative vibes !
In top of that the Spa is old , not very clean ( the toilet ) and need a lot of work, totally updated.
After the massage , we asked for the manager at the front desk, the receptionist told us the manager was not here anymore. Finally after 20 long minutes waiting while she was whispering on the phone with her hand in front her mouth , a young woman appeared ( the manager on duty )
Her and the concierge ( Spa ) were again whispering in front of us during at least 5/10 minutes while we were waiting. She asked me again to repeat the all story !
She asked us when we were leaving, we said tomorrow and she said : Oh ! Too bad I wanted to give you something to apologize. We paid for the 2 massages and left .
Not only totally incompetent but impolite, rude and inefficient! Bad , bad service, inacceptable for a hotel like that !

Treat yourself to Luxury!
Aug 2016 • Solo
I came in as a walking, and being that I am backpacking this was an absolute treat. I had the coconut body scrub along with the 90 minute deep tissue massage. Amazing! Luz was awesome at her job and I would highly recommend her. Prices if you are converting US dollars are pretty good considering the caliber of the place. treat yourself!

Best way to pamper yourself in Cartagena
May 2016 • Solo
If you are looking to relax while in Cartagena- your first stop should be So Spa in the Sofitel Santa Clara hotel. A deep tissue massage with Marina will release all the pent-up stress. Marina and the rest of the staff are extremely professional and friendly. I should also mention that for such a high-scale spa-the prices are very reasonable. A 90-minute massage was around $100.
