Lovely day in the mangroves; easy pick up at hotel; great and knowledgeable host. Ended with a lovely fresh fish dinner. The hosts at the restaurant were lovely; my friend does not eat fish, and I forgot to tell them this. Nevertheless, they promptly substituted a lovely coconut rice dish and platanos. Tell them if you have any dietary restrictions, note that they will provide bottled water and you won't be paddling .…

Cindy has assembled fabulous tour guides to cover any interest you have in Cartegena, particularly if you don’t speak Spanish . She personally met us at the airport and ensured we had a room with a patio ( as promised but not initially offered) when we checked into our hotel. She arranged for several tours and made reservations at delicious and authentic restaurants. Our first tour was a historical overview of the city. Manny was knowledgeable but also personable. Her treated us to local snacks along the way and took us to a hip rooftop hotel for sunset cocktails. The next day Andres and Ricardo guided us through the Bazurto market (A quality guide a must) sharing anecdotes about Anthony Bourdains visit there (Andres was a scout for him) Ricardo took great photos and sent them to us. They also suggested visiting the Popa for great city views. Cindy insisted on driving us to catch our boat for Barú resort our last day—-thank goodness—-as my husband left our passports and money in hotel safe. We boarded the boat, Cindy raced back to hotel, retrieved the documents and hand delivered to hotel staff!! They really cared about us as if we were family!…

Lots of wading birds. The tour starts in a very rough looking neighborhood but the people seemed friendly. Our guide’s name was Mohammed Ali. He could speak English but it was very broken English and difficult to understand. He was very knowledgeable of the birds but not very attentive to us. We were in a rough wooden canoe with a board to sit on. The seats got very hard before the trip was over. The boat was poled by a local guy. It was quite an adventure. We even had to push his car off to return to our hotel. We certainly got to see the other side of the tracks in Cartagena. We chalked it up as another interesting experience that lead to great stories.…
