Great experience!

As a solo traveler, I was apprehensive about getting on a boat with 11 strangers, but you find that the people who sign up for this have the same spirit that you do!

I will say, though. With so many people in relatively small quarters traveling across the ocean, it is very important to have a friendly, professional, and competent crew. You will find none better than Cesar, Ed, and Memo on La Gitanita! I’ve never seen guys work so efficiently and with so much knowledge on the operations of the boat. From managing the sailing, to being able to quickly make repairs, to even serving delicious meals, these guys made the trip.

Some recommendations:

I would definitely recommend packing as small of a backpack as possible to avoid clutter in the cabin (you can put a larger one below).

I was also grateful I brought melatonin. As someone who is not used to going to bed early, it was a bit of an adjustment to wake up and go to sleep with the sun.

Overall, an outstanding trip.

Went on the five day sail with WildCard and had an amazing time. The San Blas islands are truly remarkable, and the crew of WildCard does an incredible job keeping everyone contained and entertained. We snorkeled, paddle boarded, explored, and drank a lot of coconuts on the beach. Food was *on point* - as someone who has gone a lot of backpacking adventures this trip has been on the list for awhile, and while it’s more than a bus to Colombia it’s very affordable for the experience and how well you’re taken care of…do it!!

We wanted the ultimate San Blas experience to end our four month trip in Central America and decided we wanted to visit the San Blas and cross the sea to Cartagena. Lots of people we spoke about Bluesailing were incredibly enthusiastic, but it was even better than we could have imagined. We were on La Gitanita a beautiful boat with an amazing crew. Despite the rain in the first two days of our trip they were always bringing good vibes and being incredibly helpful. Before you leave they tell you that the food options on the boat are limited but our chef Memo surprised us everyday with a different breakfast, lunch and dinner. They were always happy to help, from seasickness to a clogged toilet, nothing was to much for them. Although ofcourse the islands were beautiful we think the crew definitely made our trip. We want to thank Ed, Memo and the Captain Cesar for the unforgettable and safe trip from Panama to Cartagena. We would definitely recommend and would 100% do it again.

We went from Panama to Cartagena and had amazing 4 days with Terry, Lucho and Carmelo. Thank you so much guys:)!

The programe:
Our hotel Pick-up was on time (5am) and we went by jeep to the speedboat that brought us to Nacar 2. The whole transportation was fine and well organized.
On the boat we met the crew, had a short instruction for the trip and went directly to the first island.
The next two days we spent on different islands or on the boat. We did a lot of snorkeling, swimming or just relaxing at the paradise-like beaches.
The last 2 days we were cruising and finished immigration in Cartagena around noon.

The food was amazing and always enough.
(vegetarian and vegan options available)
We had 3 proper meals a day and if somebody was hungry, sick or had other problems Terry took care of us like a mother.
Daily different Breakfast: omelets, pancakes, fruits, muesli, cornflakes,...
Lunch: 2x Noodles, 2xmeat, 1x soup on the open sea
Dinner: 1xOctopus, 1xNoodles, 1xLobster&Fish at the bonfire, Mexican Tortillas... and always enough side dishes
Water, Coffee and tea were available the whole day.
Before we went to the open sea we had finished our snacks and the crew went to an island for us and bought some more drinks and snacks for us.
All our drinks were always cool as they had a big coolbox and 2 fridges.

The boat was big enough for 12 people, not completely new but always clean and everything was fine. The beds were comfortable. We had a semi-private cabin and they even attached a curtain us.

The crew always took our stuff to the islands by a smaller boat and we could swim or also use the boat.

It was one of the best experiences in our life and we would recommend it for everyone.
The price looks big at the beginning, but is fair for what you get (transport, bed & supergood food on paradise beaches)

We sailed from Panama via San Blas to Cartagena in November 2021. Unfortunately, the boat and crew were changed in advance and we didn't know what to expect. We ended up on the Amande with Captain Daniel (Dani) and two crew members. The shuttle was on time. We had to wait some time before we could board the boat, during which time we were able to sit in a restaurant. The Amande 2 is quite an old boat, you can see and feel that. It is not very luxurious and the cabins are narrow but sufficient if you are not very demanding. However, the crew has gone to great lengths to ensure that everything is in good condition. The bathrooms and the deck were regularly cleaned and disinfected. The atmosphere was actually always good. There was never a moment when we did not feel safe or comfortable. The food was more than sufficient and also tasty, Andres put a lot of effort into it, there was always plenty of fruit, fish and lobster. Barbecue on the beach. The crossing itself to Cartagena was not always pleasant. It rains in November and the swell was high. Some got seasick. The crew took good care of this too. The islands themselves are great even when it rains! We visited several islands, saw reefs and were able to go snorkelling. The equipment was good.

All in all, we can recommend this trip if you don't expect a lot of luxury. The price-performance ratio is actually quite reasonable, considering how much effort the crew put in. However, if you expect a real sailing trip where you can also sail and learn something yourself, you will be disappointed. We always sailed with the engine. But to get from Panama to Colombia and get to know the San Blas Islands and life on a boat, it is just right.

We recently sailed with captain Daniel and the Amande for the journey Cartagena - Panamá! Daniel, Fede, and Samuel all did an incredible job sailing with our unusually rough weather conditions - keeping the boat running, clean, and group spirits high.

Additionally I have celiac disease and Daniel did a truly excellent job cooking for me. He was able to prepare me gluten free dishes equivalent to everyone else’s (even GF pancakes and homemade tortillas!), and he also took every step possible to prevent cross contact with gluten, which I was quite worried about on a small sailboat kitchen! He made sure I had my meal first and served myself first to avoid cross contact with gluten, and he even did some of the explaining to the group himself which took a bit of the mental burden off me! I have traveled with celiac disease for over 10 years and this is probably the best experience I’ve ever had eating gluten free on a group trip. I cannot attest to the other captains and boats with Blue Sailing, but I can definitely say that I recommend captain Daniel for anyone who wants to do this trip and has to eat gluten free!

Blue sailing acts like the booking agent for many of the boats that do the 6 day/5night trip from either Panama or Cartagena.

Blue sailing is very fast in answering all questions that you can have and goes the extra mile to make sure guests are fully prepared for their trip.

I sailed with the quest with captain Goran. Both the ship and the captain are really one of a kind. I would recommend booking this boat if you like to have a little more space to relax.

Do realise the open sea is rough, take lots of seasick pills with you, I think everyone was affected. Pack really light, you dont need much. Do take a lot of snacks and drinks, haha.

San Blas islands were a dream, never been anywhere more tropical. It was a once of a lifetime experience, being away from the world, disconnected for 6 days and gazing at a sky full of stars.

Had a mix up of some kind with my booking, but Blue Sailing responded very well on my emails and eventhough it was too late to fix it, I feel their response was good and I would still recommend Blue Sailing.

Together with a friend we sailed 5 days from Cartagena to Panama with Wildcard. We were a nice mixed group with some friends, couples and solo travelers. The boat was perfect and there was enough space for all of us. In the cabins it was very hot but when I didn’t feel well and it was safe they let me sleep on deck. The crew of Manu, Greg, Ori and Lindsay was the sweetest ever, they made us feel so at ease and they we’re smiling and singing all the time. They even made me a birthday cake on my birthday!! The food was good, we even had fresh tuna and lobster. The crew made sure we’ve saw the best places and they let us swim in the open ocean. The trip itself was the best experience ever; the islands were like a dream, there were dolphins swimming next to our boat, the sunsets were insane and the vibes were so good. I could not recommend this enough, it is like a dream coming true!

Make sure not to book a boat with room for 20 people. There where always so crowded on deck, and not enough space for everyone. I went with Sovereign Grace.

I wish my experience with Blue Sailing where different, since I had a lot of expectations due to all the recommendations I have read online.

The crewmembers did not do a presentation of themselves, they also had conflicts among themselves, which made it uncomfortable for us passengers.

They gave no information what so ever, we never knew what the plan of the day was, when we’re arraving the next destinasjon. There was no information
about the security on board either.

I was there over New Years, and they did nothing special for the night.

The food was ok, but often very small portions, and people where still hungry after. One day we got one bowl of cornflakes for breakfast, and I saw some of the crewmembers ate something else.

The San-Blas Island is the most beautiful place I’ve ever been, so I would really recommend going, but maybe not with Blue-Sailings.

Greg was nice and so was the chef and the dog😊

This company is amazing! The owner is fun and knowledgeable; the cook makes 5 star meals; the captain clearly knows his trade and will keep you safe and the deck hand is just an all around great guy!

Before booking I read various reviews of different companies online. It quickly became clear that some boats have way better reputations than others. Everything I read about La Gitanita though was very positive, and the experience I had certainly supported the previous reviews.

This is a once in a lifetime trip. Make sure that you go with a boat that is fun - but also safe/follows the rules. You won’t go wrong with La Gitanita!!!

(Also, as a side note for those concerned about cost: the value for money is EXCELLENT. While I’m sure the meals change each trip, we had barbecued rips one night; lobster another night; delicious soup one meal. The food honestly could not have been better, and neither could have the crew. This is WELL worth the fee - if you decide to spend the extra 5 days in Cartagena or Panama instead, I guarantee you that you will spend more on hotels/meals/entertainment over those days than what the sailing trip cost - and you won’t have the once in a life time experience to tell you very one about!)

Can’t recommend highly enough!
