After spending time seeing all the wonderful sites of Cartagena, my husband I wanted a chance to get out of town for a different type of experience. We were so glad to find out about Taroa Adventures - there is nothing else quite like it in the area. As others have noted, Olinto is an excellent guide and companion. He picked us up early at our hotel, made a stop for a delicious local to-go breakfast, and drove us on to our hike. We saw a number of beautiful birds (lots of toucans) and howler monkeys. We also learned about the local plants and trees and saw some interesting petroglyphs. After our hike, Olinto took us to a wonderful spot for lunch and a performance/jam session with some local musicians. We enjoyed chatting with the musicians and learning about their instruments and how they are preserving their musical traditions. Olinto did an amazing job of explaining how some of the things we saw and learned on our hike connected with the culture of the local people. At the end of the day, Olinto drove us back to our hotel and dropped us off. He is a very good driver, by the way, and we were grateful he was the one behind the wheel! It was a full and wonderful day - we highly recommend this trip.

Unfortunately I did not get to take my scheduled hike with Olinto, as my trip was cancelled due to Corona Virus concerns. However, he ensured that Airbnb refunded my full fee, even though it was more than 24 hours after I made the reservation. He has been such a pleasure to work with and so helpful in planning our adventures in Colombia and I was so bummed to cancel, but I look forward to booking with them when I make it to Colombia!

My wife, 16-year old son and I did the full day Jaguar’s footprint hike with Olinto. We had a great time from start to finish. Olinto picked us up right on time and picked up local breakfast foods for us. During the hike we saw several exotic birds including the scarlet mccaw, toucan, and puff birds. None of us had ever seen those in the wild before, We also saw howler monkeys which Pedro our nature guide was able to point out in the trees. We were able to view them up close with the binoculars Olinto brought. After the hike, Olinto took us to San Jacinto for a traditional lunch followed by an excellent music performance from local professional musicians who taught us how to drum to the rhythm. Outstanding all around! Olinto is an excellent guide who is understandably proud of his country. If you want something different with nature and local culture do this trip. You won’t be disappointed.

My wife and I decided to book this trip in order to get in touch with both nature and Colombia's rich & colorful culture. Olinto was our guide and certainly exceeded our expectations. He took us to Monte Maria for a nature hike where we saw a variety of birds, plants, monkeys, and petroglyphs. Following this, we went to Señora Sonya's home where we were welcomed as if we were family (we even got to play with their puppy Toby!) They treated us to a delicious home-made meal and batido. After this, we went to an awesome jam session with authentic Colombian gaiteros. We highly recommend this tour for anyone! Thanks Olinto!

Small Group Day Trip: The Jaguar´s Footprint Cartagena Connect to Columbia! 746308616 Are you a tourist or a traveler? To get the true feeling of a country and its people we believe that a traveler moves out of the tourist mode to experience the broader culture of wherever you are visiting. It can be difficult to do this in a limited travel window. Taroa Adventures Jaguar Footprint daytrip certainly provided an immersion with the flora, fauna and people of this lovely country. We highly recommend Olinto and his guide for the hiking as well as providing the experience to share food and music in an authentic setting with the residents of San Jacinto. I wasn't sure that I wanted to start my vacation by getting picked up at our hotel at 6 am! It takes approximately 2 hours to reach the Montes de Maria and we needed to start the hike when it was cooler. Our breakfast on the way was delicious with a empanada style egg and yam...and coffee! Now awake we thoroughly enjoyed the ride with Olinto discussing all aspects of conservation, global warming, our expectations for the day and whatever else was on our minds. His English and grasp of world connections is first rate. The hike is so interesting to observe indigenous birds, animals, plants and trees in a natural setting. The hiking taxes your body enough to make you feel accomplished, but at a pace that is doable. We saw Whooping Mot Mo, Jacamar (large hummingbirds), Oropendola, Puff Bird, Black Crested Jay, Chestnut Macaw, Egret, Northern Screamer and Kel Bill Toucans! We were fortunate to observe Howler Monkey and the adorable Cotton Top Tamarind along with awesome vegetation like the Caracoli Tree and one with a trunk full of thorns--I can't remember the name!! The ancient petroglyphs at the end of our trail were unique and offered a glimpse into the old tribes that settled here far earlier. Back at the car (a newer SUV!) we drove into San Jacinto for a bathroom break, change of clothes, terrific lunch and then onward for an interaction with a group performing Gaita music. The sound from 3 drums, 2 flutes and maracas inspired by Indian and African beats was nothing like we had ever heard. What a delightful way to end our day! We were immersed in nature, food, music and shared thought together! This tour was so awesome that we would have taken his Baru Island tour too, but alas Olinto was already booked. Highly Recommended!!!!
