We asked (in Spanish) if the islands are crowded and indicated that our preference to go to a non-crowded and not very touristy beach. We were told that Isla Bella will have a maximum of 80 people for the day as they only send 2 boats per day (40 ppl in each boat). When we arrived it turned out that only one small section of the beach (belongs to the tour company) has 80 slots. The rest of the beach is subdivided into equally small and crowded sections. We were told that there would be a complimentary kayaking. However, only 2 kayak boats were available, with only one normal paddle. The other one was broken in half and offered as two paddles to us. We took one of the two kayaks and it was full of water making the navigation difficult. As we were going on the kayak, it capsized and we lost a snorkeling mask as well as some other items. We could recover only a part of them. We didn't dare to go back to the shore with two people on the kayak, one of us kept swimming next to it. The lunch was surprisingly good. The snorkeling was ok as it again was overcrowded. Overall, if looking for a nice beach day, consider going elsewhere, not to the Rosario Islands.

I think if you go to Playa Blanca/Tranquila informed of what the experience will be like, then you can enjoy it more. The playas are much better beaches that those in Cartagena city, hence the appeal. The sand is white and the waters are turquoise, though like with all popular Colombian tourist sites - it has become an overpopulated money making machine. This beach can definitely be enjoyed but make sure you go on a weekday and earlier the better, then it’ll be nore peaceful. Playa Tranquila (where most boats go) is calmer than Playa Blanca (road transportarion). I went on a Monday and whilst there were people selling their wares and services I never felt harassed. There are no public spots to sit down so you’ll need to rent chairs/beds. I paid 30k pesos for a comfortable shaded chair for the day. There is no direct shuttle service anymore so you’ll need to either book on to a tour with an agency or take a taxi. I believe tours by bus are approx 50k pesos (but these can take 1-2 hours) and boar tours are 80k pesos (the ride is 45 mins to an hour) + 20k pier tax. Just note that with the boat option, they leave at 8.30 or so and come back at 3. In the afternoon the waves are extremely choppy - the boats jump across the waves and everyone will get soaked by sea spray. It didn’t feel dangerous but it was definitely something that had to be endured for 30 mins and probably wouldn’t be ideal for children or those who get seasick. Definitely think the beach is worth visiting if you are in the area for a few days and have a weekday free, but for much more peaceful beaches head to the Rosario islands for a night or two.

I booked my trip to the Rosario Island through my hotel. They suggested the Gente de Mar resort on Isla Grande. I opted to go as I preferred a more quiet atmosphere. The spot that I chose on the beach to sun bathe was very low key and everyone was relaxing and quiet, not like the horror stories I’ve read in the reviews for the other beaches on Rosario. The boat ride, facilities, a welcome drink and food were included in my package. All went as expected. However, please note the boat ride back to Cartagena is less than desirable. The sea gets really rough around 3pm and beyond. Our captain had some great maneuvering skills however, a prayer may help too.

When I went to the Rosario Islands in Cartagena de Indias, I really enjoyed the aquarium, where I was able to swim with dolphins. I also really enjoyed the food in one of the restaurants, I thinks it is a wonderful place to enjoy the sea, relax and conect with nature

We did the tour with Lizamar. The island is beautiful although the beach is quite tiny. Food was ok although far from what we were promised by the agency. The locals were nice but unfortunately the crew who took us there were rude, aggressive, I dont think I have been treated that bad ever on a tour. We arrived in the island at 10 am (1h later) and right when we got there they informed us that we will be coming back at 2pm because of a new covid19 restriction. Of course we understand and respect the rules, but the point is that they knew about this restriction in advance and decided to sell it as a 9-4pm tour (7h) even though it was a 4h tour, lunch time included. People in the boat were mad, we complained and they became aggressive and rude. The snorkling activity was a rip off. When we bought the ticket they told us that it was 30 thousand colombian pesos and 1h. Once there they said it was 40 thousand and 20-30min. The worst was that they took us there with such a horrible attitude, they gave a broken snorkel to my bf, we asked for a new one, they said he could do it with just the mask. After arguing the guy talked to his colleagues in the boat and they gave my bf a new one. 10 min later they said, we are leaving. The return was in a boat full of people, they added people from other trips. We couldnt even find a seat, after we told them, where are we going to seat ???? they said jump in the boat and find one, and them laughed saying we wanted a "boat just fur us". The pilot drove us back at such speed that we arrived in cartagena drenched in water, from head to toe. They really couldnt care less. We and others tried to file a complain but we couldnt find anyone in the police stand for turists. The next day we returned and filed the complain. The owner of the agency came furious, called us liars among other things, unbelievable. The police man was in shock, another of his employees also was quite disrecpecful, to the point that the police asked him for his id and file a report. For the records, we returned to file the complain so this doesn't happen to anyone else. We did not ask for money back whatsoever. Still this people insulted and disrespected us. I had NEVER been treated like this before. . In the end, a trip inteded to spend a day in a beautiful beach ended up being a nightmare dealing with rude, uneducated people. I have to say big THANKS to the police department for turist and the manger of Corpoturismo. They advised us, apologized and were really nice and respectful. They told us that this is becoming quite common lately with this agency. Please, AVOID this people and if yo decide to go there, go with someone else.
